People only ever bring up Xinjiang to dismiss China. It's nothing more than a trump card: "Oh, you think we should be less hostile toward China and listen to the Chinese? Uyghur genocide Taiwan independence Hong Kong protests Tiananmen square!!!"

You're never going to get through to people without confronting their chauvinism first because they can always pull another reason to hate China out of their ass. Part of that is investigating why they want to believe against China in the first place. Is it cope? Scapegoating? Plain racism?

Isn't that what food photographers do to make pizza cheese look stretchier? The bot should recommend nailing the pizza slice down to the table next lol

How common is it for the Holocaust to be seen as a genocide against exclusively Jews? I feel like Zionist propaganda has done a lot to revise and mythologize the atrocity.

Someone already posted the brainwashing vs moral licensing essay so I just wanna add that if an American takes an anti-imperialist stance on their history, then they are grievously implicating themselves and everyone they know.

Because if the US hasn't been fighting for freedom all this time, then what does that say about Americans? What does that say about you?

Most Americans prefer to avoid the question and the associated introspection because their lives are distant enough and comfortable enough that they can. Also, everyone understands what resisting the US entails, whether they'll admit it or not, and know to keep their head down or else.

That's Chinese disinformation! And Lao disinformation! And Kazakh and Cuban and Vietnamese and... listen, Americans need to be fed a strict media diet or else they'll start having thoughts.

I think there's also the fact that a lot of things can be understood as "censorship" even when we don't normally call it that. Moderating, blocking, filtering, defederating, etc.

Libs are so used to calling all the bad parts of liberalism by a different name that they really believe they're not [doing the thing] while [doing the thing]. Like how they're not concentration camps, they're "immigration overflow facilities." And they don't sell weapons, they "provide lethal aid." And they definitely don't impoverish millions of people in order to incite war, no they uh "apply targeted sanctions" or something.

They probably, genuinely, don't see the contradiction in advocating for free speech while banning stuff instinctively. They categorically don't see it that way, because they're the ones doing it.

I love how one of the suggested responses is to provoke the AI even more

Westerners refuse to believe that about half the fatalities were PLA members because in their countries, the police would never be unarmed, never abandon their equipment, never hesitate to kill in retaliation.

Westerners also don't pity the murdered PLA officers because they view them the same as their own police: violent people that eagerly abuse their power.

Honestly it doesn't take any convincing to make Americans support atrocities. The US can just do them and Americans will invent justifications all on their own.

In these pressing times, the magnanimous United States has decided to celebrate the holiday season by imposing some new sanctions against Zimbabwe. This vid explains the long history of Zimbabwean debt to western powers.

P.S. It's so difficult to find more information about this because literally no one is reporting on it. This press release from the US Treasury is all I got.

I just discovered this right now and I've never heard anyone mention it so I thought I'd share. For some reason, collapsed comments get expanded once they're offscreen though.

The war in Ukraine has caused a split recently among leftists and this video discusses the history of similar splits. It's very long, but the first 20 minutes are particularly relevant so I recommend watching through at least that much on 2x speed.
