The blanket term "AI" has set us back quite a lot I think.
The plant thing and the deepfakes/search engines/chatbots are two entirely different types of machine learning algorithm. One focussed on distinguishing between things, the other focussed on generating stuff.
But "AI" is the marketable term, and the only one most people know. And so here we are.
"Spectacle Fighter".
In the late aughts, game critic Ben "Yathzee" Croshaw came up with that term to describe games like Bayonetta and Devil May Cry, beat-em-up type games where the point is less "can you get through" and more "how high can you get that combo meter? How COOL can you make yourself look while beating up all these fodder enemies?"
A few years later the industry coalesced on an agreed-upon term for this subgenre -- And called it "Character Action".
Yathzee has just accepted defeat and uses the term everyone uses, he has to, he works in games media.
I refuse. Character Action is a dumb, DUMB term because every action game is a character action game, because there is ACTION and CHARACTERS in all of them.
Whereas "Spectacle Fighter" was perfectly descriptive of just WHAT made those games special. You are FIGHTING, and the objective is to LOOK SPECTACULAR.
Title. Game otherwise works great. Windows-using friends say it works for them. Networking is also normal on computer.
I initially thought it could be anticheat related so I disabled mangohud and made sure Easy AntiCheat was launching etc.
But no cigar, the game loads and errors out like in the pic. :
It seems to do so immediately, too, like it's not even trying to connect?
Tried it on my Deck too, same error.
Do not have a Windows PC to try it on, but it's really confusing me, because it ran perfectly until today. :P

Personally, I feel like you can have fun on fedi, but it all depends on the accounts/communities you follow. My Sharkey feed AND my Lemmy feed are both full of memes, fandom nonsense, and shitposts. If you only follow serious communities and people that talk about serious news, you'll have a serious time.
That said, one thing that I thought was unpleasant about the fediverse, and then realised was a feature rather than a bug is... The fact that you can run out of fediverse content. After 2 hours on Lemmy, I have functionally read all of Lemmy (or, well, all the communities I care to read), and maybe 1 more hour to join conversations I'd like to join.
Compared to the seemingly infinite content stream of The Other Sites (tm), this initially struck me as bad and weird, but then I realised... I actually prefer it this way. Doomscrolling a fedi site/app is actually not possible, and that has done wonders for my mental health.

My parents' old place had the bat towels and the bat box.
Bats would hang out in our garden eating bugs and such. But they'd sometimes get confused, flop into the house, and get stuck. We live in a third world country, there isn't some organization we can call to properly care for the bats, but we're not stupid and we know that handling a wild animal is bad for us and the critter.
So. Old beat up towels. Toss one on the floor next to the crawling bat. It'll cling to it. Lift the towel from a distance. Gently drop it in the box. Put the box next to a tree. Bat will find the tree and find its way home.
Honestly at this point y'all should just get the fuck out. Where to? Anywhere honestly. You'll probably find the third world preferable to a post project 2025 Murica.
