These days when people say roguelike they just mean a game that divides its gameplay into short, disconnected runs instead of one long, continuous save. It unfortunately has nothing to do with whether a game is anything like Rogue.
I think the closest I've come is wanting to go camping after watching Yuru Camp. I bought a bunch of camping stuff, arranged with a friend to go camping, and then he flaked out and we never went. I used a bunch of it with my wife recently though (over a year later), so at least it wasn't wasted.
Thanks for posting all these discussion questions btw.
If you're looking for another cool fantasy thing I can heartily recommend Delicious in Dungeon. It starts out as a simple adventure where the party is trying to get deeper into the dungeon to resurrect their fallen comrade while scavenging for food along the way. Once it's taken a few episodes to establish the personalities of the main cast it quickly starts expanding on everything else that's going on and the adventure gets a bit more complicated. It's got really cool worldbuilding, character writing, and animation and is easily among my favorites.
Eh. I haven't listened so much lately anyways since Chris started obsessing over Crypto.
It's hard to pick a top 10. The top 5 on this list are pretty firmly my favorites but after that there are any number of great shows that could've filled the latter 5 slots.
- Redline - This movie showed me that an anime doesn't need a complex plot to be awesome.
- LOOK BACK - Really emotional story about two artists.
- Kaguya-sama: Love is War - So far this is a perfect adaptation of my favorite romance manga, and my favorite comedy manga. I didn't want to use the term "romcom" simply because I want to emphasize that it excels on both points individually. Here's hoping they continue on to finish the second half of the story.
- Gurren Lagann - Much like Redline, this show is just awesome.
- Skip and Loafer - Extremely charming story about a girl from the countryside getting accustomed to Tokyo life. Season 2 airs later this year so it's a good time to catch up if you haven't seen it!
- Bang Brave Bang Bravern! - Big gay robots.
- Legend of the Galactic Heroes - Space opera. The worse modern US politics has gotten the more depressing this show has been to watch.
- Gundam Build Fighters - The most charming Gundam show. Unfortunately some of the jokes and references won't land unless you've watched an ungodly amount of not-quite-as-good older Gundam shows.
- Eureka Seven - An excellent mech anime held back a little by a slow first several episodes.
- Mob Psycho 100 - A story about a boy trying to grow up into the best version of himself he can manage.
It's important to not allow "perfect" to become the enemy of "good".
"Yuuki Bakuhatsu Baan Breibaan" would translate to something like "Let Your Courage Explode, Bang Bravern". I really like "Bang Brave Bang Bravern!" , but for some reason it also goes by "Brave Bang Bravern!" which I don't like as much.
"JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" is a straightforward but great way to translate "JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken".
I don't care quite as much for "Boku dake ga Inai Machi", which would translate to "The town where only I am gone" and was instead localized to "Erased". It removes the emphasis on the struggles the main character had as a child.
"Delicious in Dungeon" is a travesty of a title. Based on the fact that that title is even on the cover of the original Japanese version of the manga I wonder if the mangaka came up with it themselves without consulting any native English speakers.
I use apps that aren't available in my region for language study, so this could end up being a real problem for me.
My favorites have been :
- Bang Brave Bang Bravern - Big dumb gay robots
- Mobile Fighter G Gundam - Big dumb straight robots
- Redline - Just some fun racing action. Some of the best animation I've ever seen.
- Wotakoi - Love story between nerdy office workers
- Legend of the Galactic Heroes - The best space opera
- One Punch Man - depressed superhero
You want hardware manufacturers to provide shitty screens in perpetuity just so Linux devs can avoid implementing proper scaling? Yeah, no.
