If we ever wanted more evidence that we're allowing the racists to run ICE, we have it right here:

“After I was violently dragged from my car, I was put in the back of a car with three federal agents, where they laughed at me and told me this wouldn’t have happened if I was a ‘normal’ human being,” Rahman said.

Thanks - but I can do much better. This was just me trying out the pen, the idea to take the photo didn't come until I was writing the 3rd paragraph - so then I started making all sorts of mistakes. ;)

I'm guessing it's supposed to look like a Monoc, but really it's just a hooded nib.

Welcome - glad you are enjoying the community.

[-] Unattributed@feddit.online 1 points 3 days ago

I'm assuming it's some kind of chinese nib. I haven't been able to remove the hood -- don't think it comes off. But it's a surprisingly good writer... No railroading, no hard starts or skips. The ink just flows -- as it should.

Weird Pen Day (thelemmy.club)

So, I was ordering stuff from Amazon the other night... I'd come across this #pen a week or so ago, and I couldn't get the ink window out of my mind. It was cheap, so I wasn't expecting much - but I had to satisfy my curiosity.

This pen is from a company called Wilknd. Never heard of them, only other listing is for a fairly generic looking ballpoint pen.

What I received is actually a fairly respectable #fountainpen - especially for $15, compared to junk like Beiluner or Scrivenier.

Brass case, plated gold, fine nib (listing says 0.5mm, but it writes like an EF), interesting design (I don't recall seeing anything like this), a snap cap with a liner, installed syringe-style converter. I filled it with Hongdian Blue ink and tried writing a page -- enjoy my crappy penmanship. Lol.

Introduction

So, this is the end of the Journaling January event for 2026.

It's been a long thirty-one days, and I am not even certain how many people actually followed along with the event. I have been happy to see many of the prompt posts getting quite a few likes, so I have to believe there were people that were following along.

Personal Recap

Let me lead the way on this one, and if you were participating, please add comments about your own experience below.

A couple W's:

  1. Personally, I was happy that I was able to keep to writing every single day. Even during the FediWriMo event last year, I had a day when I didn't write anything, so sticking to my guns and writing even when I didn't feel like it was a win for me.

  2. Another win: writing more than the stated goal. Yes, it got out of hand a few times (eleven pages in one day?). But most of the time I was writing just what I wanted to get down on the page. If it took three pages, fine. If it took seven pages, okay.

  3. Finding something meaningful in the prompts to write about. I didn't mention this as much as I could have, but while I didn't always sit down to write based on one of the prompts, I found them working their way into my entries. That was something I hadn't considered... Just letting them come up in the natural flow of my writing.

A couple of L's:

  1. I didn't really improve my penmanship. I was hoping that writing this much would help. But the idea of writing cleanly and getting the thoughts down on the page really seem to be at odds with each other.

  2. The prompt images. Yeah, okay, they weren't good at first. I had to redo them to make them more readable. Lesson learned.

  3. And, I will say this, some of the entries in my journal this month have more "fluff" in them than I would have liked. It seems like there were times when I was trying to get an idea on the page, but I just couldn't get the ideas to coalesce properly.

In Closing

So, that's the end of the event for this year. Did you follow along? Did you use any of the prompts? let us know about your experiences below.

Somewhere down the Line

There is this thing that many people have problems doing: having a vision for themselves. They don't want to think about five or ten years when they are struggling to make it through today. And it makes sense. But, there is something to be said for having a vision of where you want to be, even if that is just "not in my current situation."

Day Thirty-One Prompt

I won't talk about "self-actualization" or any other psuedo-psychology, self-help mumbo jumbo (although Mumbo is a pretty entertaining Minecraft player). However, sometimes the way to get started on something is to actually write about what you want.

What Do I Want My Life to Look like in Five Years? In Ten Years?

Note: These prompts are being supplied as a completely optional item for you to use, if you are stuck on what to write. In fact, you might want to use one of the earlier prompts later in the month if you get stuck.

Closing Note

So, it's the last day of the event. Tomorrow I will post a final leader-board for the community to see who completed the event.

If you haven’t posted before, leave us a comment below. We’d love to get to know all the participants in the event.

[Day 30] Alone Time (thelemmy.club)

Alone Time

Are you the kind of person that likes to have alone time? Personally, I am the kind of person that really needs alone time. I cannot handle too much social activity, unless it's in small groups.

Day Thirty Prompt

So do you have any favorite things to do when you are alone? Talk about them in this journal entry. Don't try to cover all of them. Think of this as a prompt you can reuse from time to time to talk about different things, or when you discover something new to do.

What Do You Do When You Are Alone?

Note: These prompts are being supplied as a completely optional item for you to use, if you are stuck on what to write. In fact, you might want to use one of the earlier prompts later in the month if you get stuck.

Leader Board Update

I've been giving this a bit of thought. I think posting the leaderboard in here twice a week should be sufficient to show the progress the participants are making in the goal. My current thought is to post it on Sunday and Thursday, but I might change the days if I think of a reason to.

Instead, I will supply the link to the leaderboard most days. If you want to join us in the event, use the Join Code listed in the sidebar on the right.

Interview Someone You Admire

Who are people you admire? Are they alive? The fact they are no longer alive would be one issue for me, another would be the likely language barrier. The person I am thinking of was German. As far as I am aware, they didn't speak English. At least not to a level that an English interview would be possible. (I've read a fair amount about them, and read interviews - and all of them were translated.)

Day Twenty-Nine Prompt

Who would you interview, if you could? Would you have the problems I mentioned above? If those were things that would be an issue: what would you ask them if that barrier didn't exist? Do you think you know the answers, but would just like them to confirm what you think you know? Or are there things that you genuinely don't know?

What Questions Would You Ask Someone You Admire If You Had the Chance to Interview Them?

It's So Special

Collectors know all about this one - but in a bad way. You always want to get something that is special: a limited edition playing card, an album that was misprinted, that first edition book that there are only a hundred known copies of.

Day Twenty-Eight Prompt

Objects have special value to us. Whether it's a collectible, a knick-knack you bought to mark a life event, a family heirloom, they are special. All of them are wroth writing about.

Write About an Object that Is Special to You. Why Is It Special? What Is Its Significance to You?

Note: These prompts are being supplied as a completely optional item for you to use, if you are stuck on what to write. In fact, you might want to use one of the earlier prompts later in the month if you get stuck.

[Day 27] Miss You (thelemmy.club)

Miss You

There are people that you come across in your life that you really appreciate. Some people have the power to leave an indelible mark on you and deserve to be remembered.

Day Twenty-Seven Prompt

Choose someone that you really appreciated having in your life, but isn't anymore. The reason doesn't make a difference. Write about what that person meant to you.

Write About Someone You Miss.

Note: These prompts are being supplied as a completely optional item for you to use, if you are stuck on what to write. In fact, you might want to use one of the earlier prompts later in the month if you get stuck.

[Day 26] It Doesn't Exist (piefed-media.feddit.online)

It Doesn't Exist

There have been places that I used to go to that don't exist anymore. A coffee shop I used to go to everyday shutdown years ago. One of the schools I went to was torn down.

Day Twenty-Six Prompt

The world is constantly changing around us. Sometimes it's good to sit back and remember places that don't exist anymore, especially if we have strong memories associated with them.

Write About a Place that Doesn't Exist Anymore.

Note: These prompts are being supplied as a completely optional item for you to use, if you are stuck on what to write. In fact, you might want to use one of the earlier prompts later in the month if you get stuck.

[Day 25] I'll Take the Number... (piefed-media.feddit.online)

I'll Take the Number...

Numerology is an ancient mystical belief in the connection between numbers and events. While it is not a widely practiced belief system in modern times, many people still feel they have an association with a particular number.

Day Twenty-Five Prompt

If you have an association with a particular number, write about it. Why is it special? What does it mean to you? Is there more than one?

Do any Numbers Have Special Meaning to You? Which One(s) and What Do They Mean to You?

Note: These prompts are being supplied as a completely optional item for you to use, if you are stuck on what to write. In fact, you might want to use one of the earlier prompts later in the month if you get stuck.

[Day 24] Upsetting News (piefed-media.feddit.online)

Upsetting News

Back on day twelve we used random words from news or social media for writing, and on day twenty it was suggested to use a random article from Wikipedia. Today is the next leg of the current events based aspect of journaling: choosing a news story that makes you upset.

Day Twenty-Four Prompt

Writing about current events in the news is a good way to explore fears and anxieties. This exercise is a perfect way to explore your thoughts and understanding more carefully. And it's a way to understand your own fears and anxieties in a more detailed way.

What News Is Making You Upset, Fearful or Angry? Why?

[Day 23] Memories of a Conflict (piefed-media.feddit.online)

Memories of a Conflict

Think back to a time when you were in a conflict. Was it something silly or stupid? Was it something that you thought was lifer altering in some manner?

Day Twenty-Three Prompt

Try to recount as many details as you can about a recent conflict. Doesn't matter if it was a small or major conflict. Write about the resolution to the conflict, assuming it has been resolved. If it hasn't, write about how you can help to resolve it successfully.

Write About a Recent Conflict in Your Life.

Note: These prompts are being supplied as a completely optional item for you to use, if you are stuck on what to write. In fact, you might want to use one of the earlier prompts later in the month if you get stuck.

[Day 22] Embarrassed Yet? (piefed-media.feddit.online)

Embarrassed Yet?

So, we all experience traumas. But not all of them are serious. Some of them just cause a little embarrassment.

Day Twenty-Two Prompt

Write about a time someone either found out you do something you think it is embarrassing, or you were caught in a situation doing something embarrassing.

Write About a Time You Were Caught Doing Something Embarrassing.

You can hate me for saying this, but there's no way Minecraft shouldn't be on that chart. If this data is right Minecraft Revenue and Usage Statistics (2025), the sales between 2020 and 2023 would be ~100M.

[-] Unattributed@feddit.online 21 points 3 months ago

Not only do I think this will generate a fair number of CVE's, I think there will be a lot of optimization of the code going on.

Look at what happened with OpenOffice a few years back -- the Oracle buyout of Sun Microsystems forced the forking of OpenOffice to LibreOffice -- during which the new Dev team took the time cleanup and refactor the code. This resulted in a suite that was about 10 percent smaller, and removed a bunch of redundant things (like multiple copies of icons).

I bet we see something similar with Minecraft -- even if it can't be an "authorized" version.

What's insane about this is the reporter literally just asked reasonable questions given historical context. Leavitt is a fucking joke.

[-] Unattributed@feddit.online 17 points 3 months ago

Oh! This is just the beginning... Just watch the first Tuesday in November, when a lot of special elections happen. ;)

But, the real stuff won't happen until November, 2026 -- which will be the mid-terms where a bunch of our Senate and Congressional seats will be up for elections...

What timeline are we living in where MTG is actually starting to talk sensibly about some of the bull-puckey that Trump is pulling?

Don't get me wrong - she still is not a good person, in fact she is downright despicable on many levels. But crap, she's actually talking against Trump on two issues now.

But, honestly, I doubt her sincerity on the tariffs issue. It's most likely that she's concerned that the businesses that have been stuffing her pockets for years won't stuff her pockets anymore.

[-] Unattributed@feddit.online 27 points 4 months ago

I'm just really glad that I don't play any games from EA....

[-] Unattributed@feddit.online 64 points 4 months ago

This is definitely something that has been coming for some time. Yes, I am a little surprised it has taken this long for a major channel know for hardware reviews for gamers to take this step... I would have thought that the popularity of the Steam Deck, and all of the handhelds that are now running Linux would have been a motivator.

But it seems that Steve is really seeing that there is more of a progression of people not wanting to go to Windows 11, and the issues surrounding Microsoft's insistence on adding creepy features that no one asked for (like Recall) as the push they needed.

And I agree, Bazzite is probably one of the best choices that they could make. The immutability of the system will allow them to have consistent images that won't change on them randomly. That is a definite requirement when dealing with this type of benchmarking.

[-] Unattributed@feddit.online 29 points 6 months ago

I don't know if you were joking or not... But in case you weren't: the Intel guys typically have information about upcoming / unreleased products before the details are out in the open. Yes, the drivers can be maintained by the community when the information is available... But, day one driver support won't be there (since they are generally developed in-house by Intel, and then pushed up to the kernel for release), and community development would (likely) take significantly longer....

And on the Enterprise customer side, there might be some hesitation about adopting newer Intel products that don't have drivers officially supported by the company...at least in environments where Linux would be the (logical) choice... That might lead Enterprises to look at Windows instead of Linux.
