I'm not a fan of these longer three minute trailers, but I couldn't stop watching, this looks like fun. At least everything is out of context and I have no idea what's going on!

The 4K Ultra HD of David Fincher's Panic Room arrives today. And while reviews by and large are praising the stunning transfer and color grading (there's even a special feature devoted to just that), some are pointing out other changes that only someone like Fincher would even bother to "fix."

As Film Twitter has been quick to point out, David Fincher has made some interesting -- yet very Fincher-esque -- changes to Panic Room for this 4K release. The two that are garnering the most traction and head scratches involve curtains and Coke cans -- and you just know these have been bugging him for 20+ years!

(I've included one example here. Visit the link for more examples via X\Twitter\Hellhole.)

As you can see, the original version of Panic Room has curtains that are a bit more casual, like pretty much any set you'd have in your home, whereas the 4K shows them more pressed and pristine (that is, very much how they would look in a modern Fincher movie). Other images go full product placement, with once-partly obscured Coca Cola labels now completely on display. And these are just two examples of what has been done to the Panic Room 4K; only more scouring will uncover Fincher's other changes.

Odd, sure. Unexpected? Hardly. David Fincher did similar things to the transfer of Seven, with those who have studied that transfer compared with the original theatrical version pointing out plenty of other examples of Fincher tweaking so-called imperfections, like a strand of Gwyneth Paltrow's hair or adding a door where there was once a curtain...This guy and his window treatments!

David Fincher is known to be a perfectionist and this Panic Room 4K is just the latest example. But he was pulling this sort of thing while filming, too, prompting a pretty amusing moment between the directors and his star. After one day of doing take after take after take, he asked star Jodie Foster which was best. Her response? "Honestly, you're a very sick man. There is nothing different between those last three takes." No word on if Foster has picked up her 4K of Panic Room...

Did anyone try watching Gemini Man in 60fps?

That takes some getting used to. It's hard to describe, it's like watching someone's home video. It doesn't feel cinematic at all.

Photos have appeared online of the first day of shooting the new Masters of the Universe film in London, with Nicholas Galitzine filming scenes as Prince Adam.

Apparently, this version of the story will have Adam on Earth not having any idea of whom he really is and will be taken back to Eternia sometime later in the story.

A leaked synopsis (if real) reads:

“10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia. After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!”

I got this from a discord chat group. Presumably it's official, haven't seen it anywhere else yet.

In an interview with Collider, Lawrence has provided a status update on Constantine 2, which had previously been delayed by the Hollywood Strikes and negotiations over usage rights.

“I will say we are closer than ever to being able to do a sequel, which is a great thing,” Lawrence said. “And Akiva, Keanu and I are super, super excited about it.”

“We have a great idea,” he said. “We have gone through a bunch of the comics over the years and looked at things. I will say that there’s probably grains from things that we’re pulling, but in truth, most of it is just coming from the three of us, you know, loving the character, loving the world, having it sort of in the back of our minds for 20 years and just kind of percolating on ideas, and stories and characters we love, and ideas we love.”

A post by Kevin Smith on his Instagram account reads:

We shot DOGMA here 26 years ago, at the Saints Peter and Paul Church in the East Liberty section of Pittsburgh! #alanrickman and #georgecarlin (and my Dad) all stood on the steps of this cinematically sacred place back then, whilst they lived. And this year, we’re gonna honor all of ‘em… when we resurrect #Dogma! More info very soon, Parishioners! #KevinSmith #dogmachurch #catholicismwow

If I remember correctly, Smith, has obtained the rights for Dogma recently as they were held personally by Harvey Weinstein as opposed to Miramax. This is why once all the Dogma Blu-rays were sold out, there hasn't been any reprinting. Therefore, the Blu-ray goes for quite high prices on the second hand market.

I wonder if there will be any new retrospective documentaries if it gets a new release? There was a documentary called Judge Not: In Defence Of Dogma which was planned for the US special edition DVD but for legal reasons was not included.

That instead ended up on another US DVD for the film Vulgar, a black comedy written and directed by Kevin Smith's friend Bryan Johnson and staying Brian O'Halloran.

Although it can easily be found on YouTube.

Golden | Pharrell Williams biopic reportedly got "roaring applause" at test screening before Universal scrapped it

by Ryan Lambie | February 11, 2025

Now scrapped, Golden -- a biopic about Pharrell Williams directed by Michel Gondry -- was reportedly shown to an appreciative test audience.

When it was first reported that Universal Pictures had decided to permanently shelve Golden, a biopic about musician Pharrell Williams, the official line appeared to be that all involved agreed that it wasn't fixable in its current state.

A joint statement, attributed to Williams and director Michel Gondry, said that, "When all of us got into the editing room we collectively decided there wasn't a path forward to tell the version of this story that we originally envisioned."

According to World of Reel, however, Golden's scrappage may not have been a quality control issue after all. The outlet reports that, weeks before it was shelved, the musical drama was test screened for an audience in Pasadena, and that far from being a disaster, Golden was warmly received.

In fact, the brief quotes suggest that Golden falls in line with Gondry's imaginative, often technically ingenious earlier work, including Eternal Sunshine Of A Spotless Mind and The Science Of Sleep.

A movie-goer who saw Golden described it as "very creative," with "well thought-out and executed musical numbers." There's also talk of "big rotating sets," which sounds like exactly the sort of thing you'd expect to see in a musical directed by Gondry, as well as "emotional solos and a big finale with crowds."

To cap it all, the starry cast -- which includes Bryan Tyree Henry and Da'Vine Joy Randolph -- are said to be excellent, and that, by the time the end credits rolled, the audience was "completely won over."

All of which makes *Golden'*s production story all the more strange. Universal had spent a reported $20m on the project up to the point it was axed. It's a film about a world-famous musician, with a high-profile cast and a respected French director. Shooting had already wrapped, and it was seemingly on track for a US cinema release on the 9th May.

Admittedly, *Golden'*s pre-production wasn't without incident. Theatre director turned filmmaker Michael Mayer worked on it for about seven years before Gondry stepped in as his replacement in March 2024. Still, filming went ahead and -- a title change from Atlantis to Golden aside -- all seemed to be running smoothly.

If the initial cut wasn't an unsalvageable disaster, as the initial statement from Universal suggested, then what was the real issue? We can only speculate. But given the scale of the production, it's likely we'll hear more details seep out of it over the coming weeks.

For fucks sake Disney? Too tight to pay a respectable artist?

Four major recent films from Disney have disappeared from the Disney+ streaming service in the UK - one of which is now exclusive elsewhere.

TLDR: Barbarian and Amsterdam never received a UK physical media release, and are available to digitally buy and rent. Disney issued a DVD and Blu-ray of The Banshees Of Inisherin, that remains in print. It, too, is available to buy and rent via video on demand services. The Creator is available on physical media but has moved to Amazon Prime.

Hello everyone, please vote. Here's my tiny little bit of useful information. Even though voting closes at 10pm, if your in a queue leading up to to that time, you will still be allowed to vote.

Fingers crossed.

[-] [email protected] 17 points 11 months ago

Some of the voters are a bit scary too. I keep hearing a clip from LBC where some asks Starmer if he would've been in Corbyn's cabinet.

Starmer kicked Corbyn out. That's years ago. Why are you still trying to link the two people still now.

Finally, who are the 20% that would still vote Tory? Rich business people with no ethics?

[-] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago

I'd love to see the original cut, there's clearly hints that there was more adult humour in there.

Also, if you're into that kind of thing, I highly recommend the "No Retreat, No Surrender" retrospective documentary.

Maybe it's a strong case of nostalgia but a first person Indiana Jones game doesn't feel right. But on the flip side, if it was a true third person game, people would complain that it's a clone of Uncharted and Tomb Raider despite Indy being the original.

I have mixed feelings which make me happy as I don't have an Xbox. 😁

Fuckers! Just say we hate the poor and sick and be done with it!

[-] [email protected] 16 points 2 years ago

I find these articles strange. If you can't buy it in North America, then it's hard to get? Strange Days and Cocoon I could buy via Amazon Germany. Dawn of the Dead is available on a region free 4K disc, but that's not good enough? I've been importing films since the DVD days, it does work both ways.

I'm happy to hear that Tom is okay and I welcome our new admin overlords. 😁

I was worried that the new instance and transfer would possibly confuse people and we would lose them in the move but now that has been averted.

As the tacky merchandise would say: I'm on Feddit UK. We kept calm And carried on!

😆

Have an upvote from me. I dumped pocket and started using this instead. It's simpler, cleaner and easier to use. I also reported a web page that wouldn't save properly, it was just an URL without any header or text.

Within about 48 hours, after reporting the link, it saved as a proper page of text. I like to think they fixed it.

I remember, way back when, I think it was one of Natalie Imbriglia's first albums, I stuck it into my PC's CD-ROM drive and something odd happened.

I could listen to a digital copy of the album via an included player and files that were in some locked weird format.

My CD drive couldn't see the normal CDDA portion of the disc just this little data area with a digital copy.

Wasn't impressed.

For me, Marvel peaked with Endgame. This was the end of ten years of interconnected stories and it was a fantastic run. Everything afterwards now feels like generic superhero films. Superhero battles new bad guy. Multiverse doesn't interest me.

With the arrival of Disney+, there are television shows and films to follow and my wife and I have completely lost interest in the Marvel franchise. There's so much content and we don't find it interesting anymore.

But in saying that, we did see GotG3 as it was one of the film series we enjoyed and we wanted to see how it ended.
