different stance to how blocking is handled, one far more abuseable

How is it more abuseable?

[-] Tuuktuuk@anarchist.nexus 1 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 59 minutes ago)

What things do they handle differently? I mean, PieFed has an equivalent of Multireddits and Lemmy does not, but Lemmy is about to have them if 1.0 comes out some year. That's already been declared.

The same with flairs. Yeah, PieFed has them, Lemmy doesn't, but Lemmy will have them if 1.0 comes out.

I wouldn't say it's "handling things differently" that one has implemented features that the other one is still in the process of implementing, but has already decided it definitely will implement them, at some point.

PieFed is essentially just future Lemmy.

Oh, so Stellaris 4 is out already?!

I'm apparently currently running Stellaris 4.2.3. I didn't even know it's not Stellaris 1 anymore!

It's... Weird. If they consider there to have been already Stellaris 2 and Stellaris 3, meaning they see it as a different game, then... Why just delete Stellaris 1?
But also, I do need to try downgrading to 2.1.3 and see how it feels now that I'm used to the ways of Stellaris 4!

[-] Tuuktuuk@anarchist.nexus 1 points 1 hour ago

I think the 1.0 build is still available on steam

...wut?! How?

[-] Tuuktuuk@anarchist.nexus 4 points 1 hour ago

59 million €... How many percent is that of Amazon's profits made in Germany? This counts as a business expense for them, not as a punishment.

[-] Tuuktuuk@anarchist.nexus 1 points 1 hour ago

Okay.

Just wanted to point out that PieFed and Lemmy are the same thing. There's a reason to fight between Reddit and Forumverse, but whatever makes Lemmy grow is good for PieFed and vice versa. So, the meaning of the word "alternative" is very different when comparing Reddit with Forumverse, and when comparing various Forumverse softwares to each other.

Reddit is kind of "against" us, while PieFed and Lemmy play in the same team.

[-] Tuuktuuk@anarchist.nexus 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

options are essentially PieFed, Reddit, or Lemmy

Reddit is actually a whole different system. Yes, it's alternative for the whole of fediverse, as it is completely unfederated. It's basically just one instance. Being a PieFed/Lemmy/Mbin alternative, it of course shares a lot of features with them (much more with PieFed, but a very reasonable amount with Lemmy as well!)

With PieFed and Lemmy and Mbin you have access to all the same posts and all the same communities, so they are alternatives to each other, and it mostly doesn't matter a shit which one you go for. But Reddit is a different thing altogether.

You can check what Reddit ise over here: http://reddit.com/ . Try searching for any Forumverse posts there and you will see it's not part of the Fediverse. You will not find any of our content there, unless someone who has created a user account also on Reddit has copypasted something to Reddit!

I hope this information was of use for you! 👍

And the original Italian so that you don't need to click the post open:

Buongiorno.

A machine translation of the Italian-language Mastodon post, by DeepL:

Good morning. I have a problem: I have a notebook with Linux Ufficiozero, and I have an Access database (which cannot be converted into a file for LibreOffice Base). How can I use it? Do I have to rebuild the entire database from scratch in LibreOffice? Or do I have to install Office on Linux somehow, perhaps with Wine or another programme?
This database is of paramount importance to me because I need it to manage a third sector organisation. Basically, I have to manage benefactors, donations and supported projects.

Is there actually a way to get to play the original? We now kind of have Stellaris 2, and Stellaris 1 is some kind of abandonware?! Although officially they are both Stellaris 1, of course.

I hate the electric toilet flush handles used in Tesla, but I must admit it did feel impressive when I encountered it the first time. I was hitchhiking and was allowed in a car. The door handle was kind of visible but... not really a handle?!

So, I kind of put my hand near it in confusion and "bzzrt", it came out of the door, allowing me to open the door. It was a cool experience.
Still not one I'd be ready to risk my life for, though.

This photo was apparently made in 2017.

Israel was already committing a genocide back then, but its magnitude was far lower than in the past few years.

When they built this daycare centre, it was apparently cheaper buying clothes drying closets from Sweden... And Sweden has its own language that is as closely related to the local language here, Finnish, as Arabic is related to Spanish. So, just like it would make sense having a machine with text in Arabic in Spain, it makes sense to have one with text in Swedish in Finland.

(Okay,Spanish people don't need to study Arabic in school, but then again most Finns don't really learn anything in the Swedish classes

anyhow)

But ok, I’ll be a good **** for the machine all right. I do understand I need to know my place.

Latvian sisäisen rautatiematkustajaliikenteen hoitavan yhtiön, Pasažieru Vilciensin, jonka brändinimenä on Vivi, hallituksen puheenjohtaja on antanut haastattelun, jossa kertoo aikomuksesta aloittaa junayhteys Tallinnasta Väinänlinnaan jo tämän vuoden loppuun mennessä.

Hitchhiking equipment (anarchist.nexus)
submitted 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) by Tuuktuuk@anarchist.nexus to c/hitchhiking@anarchist.nexus

"Hey, there are these two-port USB things for the standard 12 V socket (the "cigarette lighter") in my closet! Maybe I should actually write a word or two about them on that community!"

So, let me spill out something about useful hitchhiking paraphernalia

  • That 2-socket USB. Outside Europe it is still relatively common that the only USB port a car has is used for charging the driver's GPS or phone. I'm carrying a 12 V plug with 2 USB sockets so that I can plug the driver's device to that and still also charge my own phone.
  • A small laptop with a 7 hour battery life, plus a laptop charger that can be plugged into the 12 V socket were a wonderful combination! Even in middle of the complete emptiness of Kazakhstan I never ran out of battery on my laptop because I could charge it in every car. Obviously this meant my laptop essentially ran on gasoline, which is not necessarily the most eco-friendly way to charge your computer. But, it's possible.
  • A low tent in a dark colour. I had a dark-green Forclaz 2 tent, which is tall enough in one spot to sit upright, but otherwise had just enough space for my legs not to hit the ceiling. It was surprising how easy it was to camouflage it almost invisible! That tent model is now discontinued, but the concept was of a lot of use for me, until a horse stepped on the tent and broke it. Meh.
  • A small cooker that can be fed with branches. It produces so little smoke that you can hide in almost any roadside ditch and nobody will know you're cooking with fire right next to the national arterial road!
  • Cooking oil, garlic, soy sauce, spice powders. With those, you can make a different food each morning and evening, out of just a few ingredients! Also, cooking oil is good help for starting a fire in some circumstances. It needs to heat up to quite a high temperature so that it starts vaporizing and is able to burn. But once it burns, it is able to help even relatively wet wood start burning hot enough that the rest of sticks will catch fire as well!
  • A very thick marker pen. Because there are situations where it is very useful to write a sign saying which way you're trying to go.
  • Duct tape. And: They basically don't sell duct tape in Asia! Everything I was able to dig up in central Asia, China or Thailand was of a very low quality compared to what I was used to back home! So, bring enough from back home if duct tape is a necessity for you like it is for me 🤣

And of course: On highway service areas you can very often find food people have left uneaten and clearly untouched. Easy way to stay fed! I kept bringing dirty dishes to the rack where they are supposed to be brought. When the workers see you help them while waiting for leftover food to appear, they don't seem to care of you being in some corner where you don't disturb the paying customers.

Happy travels! 👍
