You can read, and you have a mind, it's up to you to put those two things together to inform yourself and form opinions.
The two best strategies that have worked for me in the past are oil refining or manufacturing cars.
But it seems the new update has locked most of the stuff you can build behind university research, so they aren't viable anymore.
It's really hard to get into, there's definitely a huge learning curve. Updates can easily change major parts of the game, and you'll need to re-learn all that.
It's also really easy to mess up and ruin a save (provided you're playing with harder difficulties), but I think it's a really fun game.
It might've been a bug? I've had mine for many months
