You might want to double check this, but as far as I remember both the Sovol SV06 and SV08 are open source. The SV06 sounds in line with your desired budget, IF I remember correctly the open source thing. And as others have said, Cura, Prusa slicer and Orca are open source and cross platform.
I can see him equally well in both roles, nice idea! I’d hope for a recurring/main cast Vulcan, personally.
Not much. On one hand, I don’t want to get too used to something that isn’t available anywhere else (controllers with back buttons are usually just able to be used as double for the face ones) and on the other hand… my main use is, as I found out, better to be avoided on the Deck. American Truck Simulator. Right now I don’t remember what I set them to, but I certainly have some cruise control options there. But the problem is that, if I’m tired at all, using the Deck if I end up doing a delivery at night, I fall asleep lmao. Learned that I am in fact not capable of shrugging off drowsiness while driving, glad I found out with a game…
It’s a bit of a general issue. The police in itself is good, however… it’s a job that puts people into a position of power. Power corrupts, and if you factor in that they’re not well paid (because tanks and so on are better ways to spend a budget…) but are supposed to put their lives on the line, then get treated either like the enemy or the “thin blue line” I see how things can go bad. Being a public service, they’re managed by the government and sent to deal with trouble accordingly, and the definition of trouble varies with whoever is at the top. Sprinkle in some dangerous levels of nationalism, the US being a super power and you most certainly get to hear about their unrest, while the stuff going on in your own country might be less flashy.
A small trivia bit that you might or might not know: at the beginning there was this organization that was created to protect the people from abuses by local lords. Everyone knows what an unholy shitfest that got corrupted into, given that I’m talking about the mafia…
Lately, not really. But I’m in a weird mood: I mostly play on the PS5 (the same thing I’ve been playing for most of the decade), stream an even older game with GeForce Now on my Mac (instead of playing far more recent stuff that has a Mac version), my gaming pc sits idle, and on the Deck obviously I play Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League when I feel like it.
Yeah, weird mood.
And all is well what ends well. Happy to see a requirement has been removed, ensuring it’ll remain accessible to the widest possible audience! Isn’t it nice when a massive corporation can be made to see reason and backtrack instead of going through with controversial decisions? Speaking of: fuck spez.
Steam allows you to stream from another computer you have, GeForce Now is cloud based and depending on the subscription it can have a 4080 equivalent gpu.
Cool stuff!
40 is a sweet spot between 30 and 60: feels much more smooth than 30, is much less demanding than 60. And by the way, 30 is acceptable too as long as it’s stable. Sure it will almost certainly feel less smooth than other options, but especially as you say you’re playing on console mostly… chances are you are already used to 30 fps. I, for example, feel the difference between 30 and 60 in Forza Horizon 5 (and the magic 40) but that’s not preventing me from doing well.
The one thing that I’m not sure has been mentioned yet, is that the Steam Deck targets 720p. The screen is small enough for that to work out fine.
32... that's a sweet split of 16 for the vram and 16 for the ram. Supposing it works well it can completely fix any memory issues with any current games!
Saving this for later, you got my attention with the combo of Mac and portable. Anything I can delete a single folder to get rid of in case I don't like it, is a great plus.
Ffs, I haven't even started that one! Ugh.

Seconded. Between American Truck Simulator and Snowrunner I went through… I think Star Trek Voyager, Charmed and unavoidably something else too. Both games run well on the Deck (ATS has a Linux version: pick the Windows one, it’s far more optimized)
Edit: and Forza Horizon! Can’t forget that.
