The thing with “AI” or better still, ML cores, is that they’re very specialized. Apple hasn’t been slapping ML cores in all of their cpus since the iPhone 8 because they are super powerful, it’s because they can do some things (that the hardware would have no problem doing anyway) by sipping power. You don’t have to think about AI as in the requirements for huge LLM like ChatGPT that require data centers, think about it like a hardware video decoder: This thing could play easily 1080p video! Or, going with raw cpu power rather than hardware decoding, 480p. It’s why you can watch hours of videos on your phone, but try doing anything that hits the cpu and the battery melts.

Edit: my example has been bothering me for days now. I want to clarify to avoid any possible misunderstanding that hardware video decoding has nothing to do with AI, it’s just another very specialized chip.

Seconded. Between American Truck Simulator and Snowrunner I went through… I think Star Trek Voyager, Charmed and unavoidably something else too. Both games run well on the Deck (ATS has a Linux version: pick the Windows one, it’s far more optimized)

Edit: and Forza Horizon! Can’t forget that.

You might want to double check this, but as far as I remember both the Sovol SV06 and SV08 are open source. The SV06 sounds in line with your desired budget, IF I remember correctly the open source thing. And as others have said, Cura, Prusa slicer and Orca are open source and cross platform.

This could be two things, aside from what you considered. Did you increase the speed? Because if I remember correctly the SV06 has a bit of a wimpy cooling system, and as opposed to the SV07, no extra fan on the back. Another thing to consider is that sometimes you just have a filament that is stringy, did you try a different one, or so far it’s your only option?

It’s a bit of a general issue. The police in itself is good, however… it’s a job that puts people into a position of power. Power corrupts, and if you factor in that they’re not well paid (because tanks and so on are better ways to spend a budget…) but are supposed to put their lives on the line, then get treated either like the enemy or the “thin blue line” I see how things can go bad. Being a public service, they’re managed by the government and sent to deal with trouble accordingly, and the definition of trouble varies with whoever is at the top. Sprinkle in some dangerous levels of nationalism, the US being a super power and you most certainly get to hear about their unrest, while the stuff going on in your own country might be less flashy.

A small trivia bit that you might or might not know: at the beginning there was this organization that was created to protect the people from abuses by local lords. Everyone knows what an unholy shitfest that got corrupted into, given that I’m talking about the mafia…

All I can think is “Do you even lift, bro?” and chuckle.

AI generated stuff doesn’t have to be bad.

Master, I beg you to reconsider!

This is quite impressive. Not sure if you have any experience with this sort of stuff, but not only the hand has 5 fingers, but the badge is essentially perfect!

Much simpler way, even if not as cool: try https://apps.apple.com/app/id6444050820 that is free and great. First download a model, if you already have one you like just use the Civitai.com link, otherwise there's a selection of them and I'd try... Realistic Visions? The 8 bit one saves you a little space. Then use the photo icon in the bottom to import a photo, you want something with the face clearly visible. Use the eraser to get rid of everything other than the face. Now try prompting for an astronaut! Should work already but you can try adding Controls: Tile, Inpainting and Pose specifically.

Performance wise you can go at the bottom of the left side, click on the cpu looking icon and select (if it's not selected already) Use CoreML: Yes and for the CoreML compute units go with All.

My M2 Mini takes a dozen seconds for a normal generation like that. With the Control modules and Inpainting is going to be a little slower obviously but hey, it's a fast app.

Little known thing, Netflix offers free mobile games to subscribers, and one of them is Into the Breach. https://apps.apple.com/it/app/into-the-breach/id1616542180?

Last time I checked it had no cloud save though, but still it's a great way to decide if you want to buy it or not!

Ffs, I haven't even started that one! Ugh.
