Imo, i believe it is indeed embedded in Chinese cultural and traditional beliefs which transfers to a modern day society. I do not believe it is upheld or foundational within the modern Chinese practice of socialism - it very much depends on education and educational levels of that particular area. I do believe it will get better with time, as there often is a disruption between the perspectives of the young and old generations.

China also helps with overseas farming infrastructure. They commenced a project late last year in Cuba to assist with their rice farms, without going into too much detail (I'm a paranoid person and don't want to divulge my relations). Although I'm sure you could find some news regarding it.

Rice agricultural engineering in China has been paramount to halting famine in the country altogether.
