Of course I had a few assumptions before but I asked as some form of discussion to see if I am wrong. Some people had good explanations and I upvoted them, even though I don't agree.

With this objectivity thing: I was just pointing out that there is a HUGE difference between ethics and morality. So most vegans I know draw conclusions from general concepts (e.g. life itself has some value so killing is bad in general) but I do think other people might draw other conclusions from these or other concepts (and I want to argue with them about their conclusions) so it's not about being objectively right at all.

Most people going vegan are doing this for ethical reasons, which is the opposite of subjective morality, since the entire point of ethics is, that it does not allow subjective morality.

My point is, that everything about veganism on Lemmy (even in vegan communities) keeps getting downvoted for "too preachy", even though it often just points out facts, while the same people are literally preaching the Word Of Richard Stallman.

You're right but in my experience on Lemmy so far, it need way more for Firefox or Linux comments to be considered preachy while pointing out facts like "producing meat leads to animal abuse" is considered too preachy.

I'm not really biased in this since I'm biased towards both equally. Just wondering why everything mentioning veganism in any way on Lemmy (like this post) keeps getting downvoted.

Not really obvious to me. I'm bashing corporate brands as a "morally driven life choice" as well.

People consider vegans on Lemmy as too preachy. Even in vegan communities here, mods have to remove soooo many inappropriate comments (I read a few of these and they keep getting removed for good reasons). Comments that suggest going vegan on posts about animal abuse are downvoted.

At the same time, whenever there is something about Windows or Chromium based browsers, people here are doing exactly the same. "Just use Linux/Firefox/whatever".

So you manage your own encryption keys for cloud files? Thats pretty much the only way and even then you have to trust Apple because it's closed source.

They have full control over your device. It's the same for Whatsapps encryption, where Facebook can still access everything on your decrypted client.

After a few years of philosophy in university, I think it's like software development. You can always go to a lower level but doing so won't bring you forward in most cases. You can ask these meta questions on every single argument but there are no satisfying results. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's fun :D

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

Thing is, most people WOULD CARE if I treat a dog, cat, or any other cute animal the same way as dairy/meat industry does. Why doesn't the "as long as you keep it to yourself" argument count in this case (might not be for you but for most people)?

It's about philosophy/ethics and not religion.

It's more about ethics than morality. You agree that violence is a bad thing? Good. So there is no reason these rules don't apply to animals, since many of them can feel in a similar way humans do.

I hate searching for sway config stuff using DDG (which returns Bing results).

Chances are never zero that that there is an outdated MS product with the same name of what you're searching.

It's not completely sealed anymore so there is a small gap. Last "thing" I added were some springtails 2 months ago. Everything else is at least one year in there. I also open it sometimes.

Scuds are still alive in my seacosphere. They're just waiting for food in their self-made tunnels until some tiggerpods come by. You can just watch them hunting since there are hundreds of tiggerpods in there.

I don't know if there is anything alive outside of the water but it looks healthy and smells like forest.

Two weeks ago, I put some scuds in my seacosphere. They built tunnels and feed on dead plants/algae.

Full of life. Worms, tiny copepods and a few snails. It's around two months old. I put the snails in there one month ago and they look healthy. Some parts of the algae (Caluerpa) are dead but it's growing fast. I hope so much for the snails to lay eggs.

Edit: it already survived temperatures above 30°C so it seems to be pretty stable so far.

These tiny red dots are Tiggerpods. This jar feels more alive than some of my freshwater ecospheres.

It's always the same pattern: After a few hours I decide to sort everything because it runs out of control but then I never do it again so it's getting worse than before.

When playing RuneScape like 10 years ago I sorted my bank by item color. Once I started pressing the button to deposit everything at once (because it felt soooo easy) it looked like it was sorted by color but it was significantly worse, since the items I used the most were always somewhere I didn't expect them.

Small chest size is literally the only reason why I don't like playing Valheim. Factorio was the worst game so far. My factory worked but it was a diabolic mess that relied on me, sometimes refilling some random chests manually.

Not sure if these white balls are eggs.

Idk there are many ecosphere communities now bit maybe mander.xyz is the best since it is related to biology.
