They're critically endangered.

  • In addition to having distinctive fingerprints like humans do, gorillas also have unique nose prints.
  • Gorillas are the largest of the great apes, but the western lowland gorilla is the smallest of the subspecies.
  • Because of poaching and disease, the gorilla’s numbers have declined by more than 60% over the last 20 to 25 years. Even if all of the threats to western lowland gorillas were removed, scientists calculate that the population would require some 75 years to recover.

This fluffy dragon bird bb is mostly known for is nocturnal and superior night vision due to a layer of tissue at the back of its eye called a tapetum lucidum, which reflects visible light back through its retina.

Other facts:

  • They eat in flight
  • Nightjars in general have some dark folklore told about them because of their big black eyes and piercing call. In Indonesia, there's a satanic nightjar(!) that has a call that sounds like "sound of plucking out someone’s eyes.^1^

Hard to teach humility to a dude who is surrounded by institutional investors funneling millions into his pockets.

Agreed. Any big migration won’t be felt until looking five years in retrospect.
