I'm really really REALLY excited for boost for Lemmy. Def going to full purchase. I've been using Connect in the meantime which I also really enjoy using

I still have boost for reddit installed lol but I made sure to donate on multiple occasions before I inevitably stopped using the app. I tried all the apps, but I loved boost the most

Kind of a typical response, but my android's custom os. I think the OnePlus 8t is fantastic, BUT specifically thinking of the custom rom (Nameless13) I installed on it to replace OOS

I'm not that old, but I still came from flip phones and nokias, so the amount of evolution is incredible

I like this custom rom so much because as a tech savvy user, I can have it do whatever I want. It has an insane amount of QOL features, fantastic support team, better battery life, better responsiveness and energy usage, frequent and reliable updates, devs pushing out good features that users actually want, no bloatware ads or BS, a ridiculous amount of options and customization, and full control. The only single drawback was the stress and effort of learning how to install a custom rom, but it felt extremely rewarding and as someone in IT, it's something good to learn. Plus having super nice and helpful support team and users both, made it way easier

Very fair and reasonable points. That's interesting to know about the dev, I had no idea! It's gotta be a shit load of work. I look forward to seeing where it goes from here

Someone else had suggested Connect, I'm using it rn and I adore it. Will be using this in the meantime, but I still want to give Jeroba and other apps a chance! I'm mostly eagerly awaiting Boost for Lemmy, though, since that's what I used for reddit

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just wanted to update you, Connect feels fantastic and I absolutely love the UI/UX. Thanks again for the recommendation!

I still want to give all the other apps a chance tho, don't think I'm ditching Jeroba quite yet :)

Yeah I feel like I've had this for like 1-2 weeks intermittently. I'll try out Connect in the meantime. Thanks!!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I'll try that and see if it improves. No idea why I didn't consider trying that first lol

Thanks!

That might explain it then. Thanks for the resource!

Idk if it's just me, but I don't see anything about it being down. It seems quite unstable for me

Just to name a few things:

  • doesn't keep me logged in
  • home page view isn't loading (default set to top week subscribed) but All loads. In general, a lot of content isn't loading, or updated, for example there's some posts I created in reddit archive community but the posts aren't showing up in my posts

I do have the most recent version. I'm on an OP8T using Nameless13 if it matters. I'm also on data but it's same on wifi

I end up just browsing Lemmy via browser instead. Anyone experience stability issues like this or is it just normal as an app is being developed?

Edit:it almost seems like it's not even just this app. Wefwef, thunder, and liftoff are having trouble loading content. Perhaps it's an issue with Lemmy.world? But the web version of Lemmy loads fine so maybe it's whatever api has to load into apps? Either way, I have no idea where to go from here :( Guidance or any info would be so appreciated

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Issue resolved, it was on my end :) turns out I had "view nsfw content" unchecked, and I hadn't realized this was a NSFW community

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh I had no idea! That sounds really nice. I don't really know what front end means exactly, but is a good comparison betterdiscord vs. discord?

Also you mention that it never talks to twitter, but I'm curious does it still pull data from twitter? Like your account and who you follow

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (5 children)

I had no idea about this and haven't heard of it before. Thanks for the info!

Is Nitter just the twitter of the fediverse? I can't subscribe to real-debrid's Nitter content, on Lemmy, can I?

With the migration, a lot of niche communities haven't fully migrated over, if at all. For example, I wrote a few guides for the games Control, Vindictus, and Outriders (usually for like farming tips, bug fixes, etc). They helped a ton of people, but I haven't updated them so I'm not 100% sure if they're still up to date and noted someone could take over

What is the correct move? Should I just be transferring them to google docs, link that in the reddit post after removing its content, and then also redirect the user to the fediverse? I thought the move was to post the guide on Lemmy and link the new guide there, in the old reddit post, with more information about the fediverse

I have evidently assumed wrong because 4/5 of my guides have been deleted from c/gaming. I spent a lot of time re-writing them for Lemmy format, which is now probably lost, and thought that was acceptable; I also looked through the rules first. Like I understand in normal circumstances, for example on reddit, I shouldn't post a guide for Control in r/gaming, but I don't know where else to put them in the fediverse since those game-specific communities don't exist yet

Thanks for any clarification on this. I want them to still be available to help people and then bring them here, so that I can go rewrite all my reddit comments and eventually delete the account

Edit: This might help with advice: The posts in c/gaming that were deleted were one for Outriders, and 3 for Control. They were all written out + the backup in google docs was linked. Perhaps I should have combined the Control guides all in one? The guide that stayed was the one for Vindictus, which was just an description and then link to the guide in google docs since it's so large. The only common denominator was that the one that stayed was the one that wasn't re-written in Lemmy, but they were all potentially not accurate anymore (patched/changes)

Like most of you, I used reddit as solely my only source for finding information. Looking to hear your guys' thoughts on this topic, and hopefully explain and share some knowledge in a more sophisticated manner than I can describe. (also, I hope this is an appropriate place to post?)

I have ran into this discussion a few times across the fediverse, but I can't for the life of my find those threads and comments lol

I believe that a non-corporate owned platform with user-generated information is most optimal, like wikipedia. I don't know the technicalities, but I feel like AI can't replace answers from human experiences - humans who are enthusiasts and care about helping each other and not making money. This is one of those things where I feel like I know the "best" way to find information, but I don't know the deep answers of why, and what makes the other platforms worse (aside from the obvious ads, bloatware, and corporate greed)

I don't know much about this topic, but I'm curious if you guys have actual real answers! Thread-based services like this and stack overflow (?) vs chatgpt vs bing vs google, etc.

EDIT: Wow, all your responses are fantastic. I'm not very knowledgeable about the subject so I can't really continue everyone's responses with a discussion, but I love and appreciate the insight in this thread! But I'll try to think of some follow up questions :)

Hello! The Vindictus subreddit hasn't migrated over yet, and isn't listed in sub.rehab. They have an official discord, but I thought if anything, it could be helpful to reference it here as well - with intent to spread more awareness about Lemmy / Fediverse

In June 2021, I wrote a massive returning player breakdown guide for the MMO, Vindictus. Sadly, I retired (for good) in Jan 2022, so I was not able or willing to maintain the guide. I mentioned this in the discord, but got no bites. It's a pretty small community, but the ones still there are pretty active afaik

So, since it's outdated but still useful in some ways, I decided to throw it in google docs so that I can eventually transfer ownership, and then they could possibly update & post it in the best location for their community (which I hope won't be reddit, but might stay with google docs)

Anyway, here is the guide in view-only. I will post in the official discord about this and bulk-rewrite all my comments once all my useful posts/comments are migrated. Let me know if you guys think I should do anything else for this transfer :)

I've been watching Superman & Lois which is recently airing, but I'm a few episodes behind and can't seem to find a good source for new episodes. The last 3 episodes I see as released on June 14, 21, and 28 (upcoming) so I assume that I should see streams for the first two - or is this normal?

I don't watch anime; the addons I have installed are:

  • Cinemata
  • WatchHub (might not need?)
  • Public Domain Movies
  • OpenSubtitles
  • Local Files (without catalog support)
  • Torrentio
  • CineTorrent
  • Cinestream by dexter21767
  • Torrent Catalogs
  • KOLKOL by dexter21767

In addition to my question about if there's other addons that would more likely have streams for new TV shows, what are your guys favorite addons?

PSA this is my first custom keyboard, so I am a newbie. I have a friend who helped me, but I am looking for advice and discussion from you guys. I got the barebones edition and stuck on my own silent switches (durock dolphin silent linear) and keycaps. GMMK Pro and GMMK Numpad

I'm already having issues and it hasn't even been 3 days. I want a keyboard that actually works well and doesn't have any restrictions. I like I want minimal to zero problems or hassle

So far:

1. FN key randomly sticks. Not the actual switch, but it stays on and I have to hold it to type. We found out that this was caused by unplugging it while the PC is on. This can consistently be fixed by factory resetting the keyboard, upon which I would have to re-apply the config every time. I don't like the idea of having to shut down every time I want to unplug my keyboard (for maintenance or cleaning)

2. Glorious Core software is straight garbage and I basically can't customize the knobs or slider as I expected. Turns out a lot of people are saying it's garbage

3. The left stabilizer for the spacebar is slightly sticky. Enough to be noticeable, I might be able to forget about it or slightly fix, or maybe I'd reach out to support and they could send me a new one. But obviously I don't want the hassle and this is pretty noticeable considering how often I use the spacebar, especially for games

4. I can't get the numpad working via bluetooth. I found a thread where someone said plugging in their wifi antenna made it work instantly and I did that, but it doesn't work instantly. More hassle to deal with

So I have some questions for you guys and hopefully can arise a lot of discussion from experts.

  1. Does anyone know a PERMANENT fix for all of these issues? (FN bug, better software, stabilizer fix, numpad fix)
  2. Does anyone recommend a different board and numpad?

If the answer to #2 is yes, here is my criteria (I know I'm picky):

  • 75% black heavy aluminum RGB ANSI layout, USBC
  • hot swap
  • south facing LEDs for both board and numpad
  • excellent build (good stabilizers, etc)
  • excellent software (for rgb, and if it comes with a knob)
  • ideally: RGB side lit
  • ideally: left aligned cable (rather than center)
  • ideally: wireless (reliable, and only if long battery; for either/both kb and numpad)
  • ideally: have a knob, maybe just on the numpad

Thanks in advance for any help, and I'm sorry if this comes across as negative. I'm just very frustrated that shit just constantly has problems

I'm considering rewriting all of my comments, but I want to do this carefully and correctly because I'd eventually want to delete the account, so I wouldn't be able to make changes

I want to keep it short and sweet, but be informative, make very good points, and hopefully persuade any user to try out the fediverse

What did you guys change yours to? I'm thinking something along the lines of this:

This comment has been rewritten so that its' content is removed. On May 31, 2023, Reddit announced they were raising the price to make calls to their API from being free to a level that will kill every third party app on Reddit. This hurts many types of users, and the way that the CEO has handled the situation is not right at all. Reddit is another victim of pure corporate greed.

Some may not consider this important to them, but for anyone who sees this, I strongly encourage you to join the fediverse. It will be confusing at first, but it is very welcoming :) Alternative platforms:

I feel like it's too wordy (I tend to ramble). I'm trying to find compact "elegantly worded" reasons about what's going on and why it's wrong, with links of good posts, but a lot of that is on reddit. Can you guys help a bro out?
