The best advice here is to just not buy new. You can get a refurbished laptop from trusted sellers that will definitely exceed the requirements for under $200. If you are willing to spend up to $300 then there is literally no concerns.

For example here is a DELL Latitude 7490 Laptop Intel Core i5 8th Gen 8250U (1.60GHz) 16GB Memory 256 GB SSD Intel UHD Graphics 620 14.0" Windows 10 Pro for $192 on Newegg.

If you don't like Newegg there are tons of other stores that offer refurbished laptops. I assume you are in the USA and stores you can consider are Target, Walmart, Best buy.

There is very little risk with refurbished laptops. They are usually tested before being shipped out and if you buy from a legit company they usually offer some kind of store warranty. Walmart for example offers a 90 day return policy for any reason.

It's hard to make suggestions on which laptop to get since availability plays a bigger role here. So just look around at your desired budget and pick what you think your kid needs.

If you think your kid won't accept a laptop that has a scratch, simply look for "As New". Then there usually aren't any visible damages. But if you are fine with some cosmetic damage you can get real bargains.

I blame the school grading system for it. 70% and below is already a failing grade in many courses. So by extension anything that gets rated 7 or below is asscoiated with failure.

I am not from the US, so I don't know how long this grading system has been in use there but here in Central Eruope that's a rather new thing. That's why a 5/10 didn't feel as bad 20 years ago while today a 7/10 feels worse.

Depending on the airport/country you are stuck in, you can take a trip to the nearby city. I was once stuck in Singapore Airport for 13 hours and just took a day trip to Singapore. It's a bit risky in your scenario because they might move your flight forward but depending on the circumstances of the delay it might be fine.

Almost all airports have a spa or some kind of wellness offers. Would be a great time to try it out. Maybe you discover something new you like, worst case scenario you wasted 1-2 hours. In general look up entertainment offers at the airport. Most have at least an internet cafe that would allow you to play "proper" games since mobile games aren't yours.

They totally exist. Anyone between 15-21 can be placed in a Young Offender Institution. Anyone 18+ can be placed in an adult or young offender. And anyone over 21 has to be in an adult prison.

In this scenario they are all sent to the same prison that has a special block for "foreign prisoners". This block isn't supposed to hold certain types of prisoners, like sex offenders, but according to the article it does.

So there are lots of steps that are failing, why this is rather "shocking".

The way I interpreted it LTT wasn't asking for it to be kept in private but simply allowed to give their point of view. And he is right, journalist usually do that. If they accuse someone of something they usually ask for a statement. Often it's just met by "Company refused to give a statement" but at least they tried.

And GN is kinda doing the same he is accusing LTT of, not doing their due diligence by not reaching out. This isn't about keeping it private.

Why not just leave a small amount of money so they can buy it themselves? It would solve all issues. From allergies, spoiling, and attracting insects or stray dogs.

Because you run into the issue that most healthy things that don't spoil are rather hard. And many homeless people have issues with their teeth and can't eat that. So you either leave something less healthy, like sealed soft bread or you ignore food safety rules.

Which isn't as big of a deal in Asia. Even affluent people ignore it. Foods to look out for would be anything with a lot of soy sauce or vinegar. They tend to last a bit longer. And while it sounds stereotypical, anything with rice will be appreciated.

Leaving fruits could also work.

Every country has lots of struggles. There are a few European cities I would consider close to perfect but when leaving said cities things can become more difficult in the same country. Vienna and Copenhagen might be my two favorites. Rent is still fairly affordable in both cities especially given the available salaries. Both have great public transportation, lots of green spaces, good access to education and healthcare, and a healthy entertainment sector. Both countries are doing fairly decent overall. Denmark is probably ahead of Austria because Austria has a bigger right-wing. So by extension I would say Denmark might be as close as it gets.

Obviously there will be a few smaller towns that are even better but they are too small to consider.

When talking about a whole country a lot of it comes down to personal ranking on what you consider important. When leaving central & northern Europe the relative income drops significantly in most other nations. Which would matter for some as it affects the possibility of traveling, while for other it doesn't.
Many of the pacific island nations have a surprisingly high standard of living despite poverty being an issue. But even if you don't care about money and would rank the relaxed living there over the working culture in Europe there is another issue that affects some. Abortion is illegal in most of them, it's usually allowed for medical reasons, especially if the life of the pregnant woman is in danger. But for some the lack of access to abortion would totally dismiss these countries from consideration while others prefer them for it.
Singapore could rank very high but the fact that there is the death penalty for drug related crimes is a huge red flag for many. But again, others even agree with it.

Pizza predates tomatoes coming to Italy. There is a 2000 year old fresco that has a pizza in it (without tomato sauce obviously). Tomatoes made it to Italy around 500 years ago.

And there are still pizzas today that use a different base for their sauce than tomatoes. But taste is subjective so it's hard to say if those are "the best".

You probably want a gas generator since diesel smells terrible and you don't want that anywhere near your home.

You just need to make sure you get one that can run long enough without having to stop. Most portable can't even run an entire day. If you get a stand by generator, that shouldn't be an issue. But you might still need to take a break once a week.

In general gas generators require more maintenance and have a shorter lifespan. But you probably want to switch to another energy source all together. A generator is. only good for 10,000-30,000 hours. Which is 1-4 years if you are using it every day.

A diesel generator would last longer and is easier to repair. So if you plan on using a generator for the next few decades, get a diesel. But I would suggest adding solar power asap and then only using the generator as backup. That way even a gas generator could last 20-50 years.

For cooking get a gas stove. You can just get a 1-2 burner stove or a full on stove and just hook it up to a cannister rather than the gasline in your home.

PC games are infested with the same issue. Especially anything that's free to play. But even plenty of full price titles have the issue. The FIFA series is one if not the worst offender of this.

Belgium tried to stop it and declared loot boxes as gambling. Effectively banning them from any game that doesn't have a gambling license. This happen back in 2018/19. Unfortunately it isn't really enforced and did nothing. But it's a step in the right direction.

ACT rentals had the lowest average minimum temperatures at a chilly 7.4C. They were only slightly colder than rental homes in Tasmania, which tracked at an average of 7.5C degrees. The average minimum indoor temperature in Victoria was 9.8C and in NSW it was 10.5C.

That's the more important part. Dropping below 18°C sounds like it's in the 15-18 range. But temps well below 10°C is another story.

I am not sure how often these homes get close to their minimum temperature. But apparently some can't even get their room temperature above 18°C with a heater running.
