Thanks, I'll update it from time to time when I need it.

Thanks for the answer. I was unsure whether it could be dangerous to the PC itself if you ignore the updates for both operating systems.

Yes, I've also read about problems with dual-boot systems after Windows updates, which is why I've refused to use Windows too often to make the updates worthwhile.

Hey guys,

I use my laptop with a Windows 11 / Linux Mint dual-boot system.

Since I actually use Linux Mint 98% of the time, I wanted to ask if it is still necessary to do the system and security updates for Windows 11 as long as Windows is not needed?

It could use a bit more explanation, but I like Matrix because of its structure:

  • you have the normal chat function

  • group functions

  • you can create rooms and spaces for larger topics

  • you have a direct overview of whether the files in the chat are safe

This is also very handy for me in the family area, because I can divide and separate different topics in such a way that I can avoid a longer topic taking up entire chat groups that are actually meant for something completely different.

Matrix in particular always gives me the feeling of having a messenger with a forum where I can communicate and socialise both locally and internationally.

It's also my file-sharing app (as it's pre-installed on Linux), as Warpinator is only available for Android.

But yes, I would definitely recommend Signal for its speed of use, Threema is more or less the same but with a premium. With Matrix, you need to get used to it before you can use all the functions.

I don't mind the statement behind the post, but was there really no other medium for the post than the Trumpist NYPost? This is the same media that supposedly wants to ask 10 questions about the tariffs in an article to defend them, and then asks questions like should Trump keep 12 million illegal refugees in the country like Biden?

What does this question have to do with legitimising the tariffs? No idea, ask the brainwashed journalists at the NYPost.

If a company called TikTok can survive and thrive, surely one called Mastodon can too.

What I really like about Linux (Mint) is the automation of updates. I had a similar feature enabled on Windows (10), but I still had to install most of it manually. With Linux (Mint) the automation works wonderfully and I have no stress. Another reason not to go back to Windows.

I can understand that certain European alternatives do not yet exist, but how wise is it to entrust data records to a country that is already threatening to simply shut down or block the software for fighter jets? I think it's good that the EU and its countries are becoming more active in the intelligence sector, but the solution here should at most be designed to bridge the gap until European alternatives are developed. Anything else would be negligent towards the data and the protection of the European population. Especially since Palantir is not exactly known for good articles and is also owned by someone close to the anti-European Trump administration.
