I've noticed a lot more domains connecting to the website. Are embedded youtube videos (and other websites) apart of these changes?

spoiler (edited)I feel like the site is slower for them but I feel like that is just me and I don't have the same issue on .ml

edit: I realized that I can just turn off auto-expand media, but I had the setting on before and didn't have this issue so it still might be one of the changes?

NOT IN THAT WAY! VOLCEL POLICE!!!

spoilerIt's more creepy as it deals with possession through disease

I would love to see her and RFK both added to the debate, even if it's just to watch 3 old men spew incoherent thoughts while Jill Stein tries (and fails) to bring up important talking points

NOW! SHOW, YOUR HANDS! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLICATE!!!

It's split into six parts and I think any full videos get DMCA'd, so I'm just going to link the playlist and it should autoplay. This song as a whole is great, and while it has a more raw mix compared to Altered State, I still really enjoy the song and find it to be tied for TesseracT's magnum opus (tied with Of Matter). Enjoy the music, use the privacy-friendly links, and I promise next time won't be Djent.

Clinton opened her announcement with a reference to a statement she made on her campaign in 2016, itself a reference to popular mobile game at the time "Pokemon GO". "He's Pokemon GOing to jail, there's no avoiding it. Now is a better time than ever for me to tell all of you to Pokemon GO TO THE POLLS and vote for me. It's a woman's turn in the white house; it's my turn". We await more details on the situation and will alert readers when more information breaks.

Many of you may or may not wonder what software to use. People may provide walls of text as a response, but you may just want something to reference without having to look into how the software works. I hope this can be that reference for all of you and anybody else who stumbles upon it. This is up for discussion and change, but I hope this can be a good baseline, as I myself have been making the changes to FOSS for a long time now, and it would be a good idea to have a recommended software/services page on Hexbear.

(The [*] marks the better option)

Workstations:

  • OS: Linux, I reccomend Fedora with GNOME (for a new, but efficient and simple feel) or KDE (similar to Windows with more customization), but I know some people like Mint for new users. Install as much software as possible on flatpaks.

For maximum anonimity and safety, use Tails. Runs on USB, wipes data when removed.

  • Browser: Firefox with Arkenfox, Tor Browser (For reliable anonimity; DO NOT ADD EXTENSIONS TO TOR BROWSER)

Mull can also be a good browser option with better content blocking. It is also not chromium, which while avoiding the monopoly, does leave it without site isolation (security feature) like other firefox mobile browsers.

  • Browser Extensions: Ublock Origin (add Adguard URL Tracking Protection and Easylist Cookies blocklists), Libredirect.
  • Office Suite: Libreoffice, OnlyOffice
  • Password Management: Secrets on GNOME, KeepassDX on KDE. DO NOT REUSE PASSWORDS OR IGNORE THIS STEP!!!
  • Music Downloading: Nicotine+ (Soulseek Client), make sure to use VPN
  • Music Listening: Gnome Music (GNOME), Elisa (KDE)
  • Network Permissions: Flatseal on GNOME, System Settings on KDE (search for "flatpak").
  • BitTorrent: Fragments (GNOME), Qbittorrent(KDE)

Mobile Devices:

  • Phone: Google Pixel + Graphene OS*, Divest OS
  • Browser: Vanadium*(Only on GrapheneOS), Mulch, Tor Browser* (For reliable anonimity; DO NOT ADD EXTENSIONS TO TOR BROWSER)
  • App Stores: Fdroid Basic*, Aurora Store (Google Play replacement, use as needed)
  • Password Management: Keepass DX, DO NOT REUSE PASSWORDS OR IGNORE THIS STEP!!!
  • 2-Factor Authentication: Aegis (Android, 6 digit codes), Hardware Keys ($$$). SMS Verification is better than nothing, but avoid it if you can. DO NOT USE GOOGLE AUTHENTICATOR OR MICROSOFT EQUIVALENT
  • Music Streaming: Harmony Music
  • Music Listening: Auxio, Fossify Music
  • Network Permission: Graphene OS is the only OS that has this functionality, find it in permissions settings.
  • Camera: Graphene OS Secure Camera*, OpenCamera
  • Notes/To Do: Fossify Notes
  • Weather: Breezy Weather (Fdroid Version)
  • Navigation: Organic Maps
  • Voice Recordings: Fossify Voice Recorder
  • Keyboard: Helioboard
  • Lemmy: Jerboa
  • Youtube Front End: Libretube, Poketube (Web App)

Proprietary Apps (Social Media, Banking, etc.) are best used as Web Apps, as privacy and security benefit from the browser sandboxing.

General:

  • Search Engine: DuckDuckGo (more consistent, proprietary), SearXNG (open-source, less consistent).
  • Chats:
    • Large Groups (Like Discord, DO NOT USE DISCORD): Jami, Matrix
    • Small Groups/Individuals: Briar* (only on Android), Signal (Struggle Session on Signal, I know there might be something wrong but at the same time Signal seems to encrypt everything)
  • Email: Proton Mail + SimpleLogin Aliasing, try to avoid email as much as possible, Chat options are more private and secure.
  • File Sharing and Syncing: Syncthing, but don't forget that you can directly transfer files from devices with usb-c and usb-a cables.
  • File Storage: Store files locally, sync between devices with Syncthing as needed. If you really need cloud storage, use Proton Drive.
  • Password Management: Bitwarden, more convinient than keepass, while eliminating the risk of losing the file or having to manually sync. Only downside is that data is stored on their servers if not self-hosting, meaning it's a bit more vulnerable to data breaches.
  • VPN: Proton VPN for free, keep an account for each device as the free tier is limited to one device, Mullvad VPN* at a premium for reduced hassle and faster speeds(5 Euros per month)
  • Social Media: Cut down on big social media as much as possible. Relocate to the fediverse, and be careful with what you post, it's still public. Do not post too much identifiable information, do not dox yourself.
  • Front Ends: Invidious (Youtube), Poketube (Youtube), Redlib (Reddit), and many others for a ton of different websites, all avaliable with the libredirect extension. I feel like the "datura.network" are pretty private and reliable, with a rotating IP to bypass blockage.

Got a lot of my info from here privacyguides.org, though some of this is based on my own experiences and suspicions.

If anything can be added, let me know! Love you all meow-hug

UPDATE: I'm bad at titles, so that's up for a struggle session.

I am starting to shave most of my body, but I have an issue, and that issue is a safety razor. It works well for my face, albeit with some irritation. The blades also dull pretty fast, as I have really coarse hair, and this issue only gets worse if I'm trying to shave my legs. It also takes quite a long time to get everything with a safety razor, in addition to it being irritating and also failing at it's one job. I appreciate any recommendation and/or reply, thanks in advance y'all!

Also search engines suck, everything is SEO and affiliate links, I promise I wouldn't be bugging y'all otherwise ;)

Y'all got warned. More Altered State. The first song on this track (Nocturne) is probably one of my favorites on the album, although I might think "Of Matter" is better overall. Going to keep the commentary to a minimum, just enjoy the track. USE PRIVACY LINKS!

MORE xi-clap DJENT xi-clap BASS xi-clap . I just started listening to TesseracT and Ithink I've reached a point where I am feeling in a completely different mood, but I still crave Djent. Enter "Altered State" calming, angelic ambience, combined with very well produced Djent and extremely fitting vocals. There don't even need to be harsh vocals, becuase it just works. Highly suggest everyone, even if you aren't typically into metalcore, djent, or even metal at all to listen to this Altered State. Haven't been listening for too long and I already love it, and that doesn't happen often for me. So here's the first three songs, together making up "Of Matter". (Watch I'm going to end up posting another song from Altered State because the next set of songs is also really good). Y'all are about to get TesseracT spammed (not any more than I have spammed Periphery and Monuments already, remember to use the privacy-friendly links.

Will I ever post something that isn't Djent? Possibly. Metal? Possibly. This song was probably the most popular off of this band's only studio album, "The Hidden Words". For those familiar with TesseracT and Monuments, this band almost serves as a predecessor for both of them, as Acle Kahney (TesseracT) and John Browne (Monuments) both wrote the guitar parts for Fellsilent. It also features two full vocalists (not a vocalist and backing vocals) who (I think) both wrote their own parts for Fellsilent. One of the vocalists, Neema Askari, would later go on to join Monuments for their "We Are The Foundation" EP, though he left by the time their first studio album was released. Enjoy this track, has a lot of good riffs and interesting vocal parts. Remember to use the privacy-friendly links!

  • Vocals: Neema Askari, Joe Garrett
  • Guitars: John Browne, Acle Kahney
  • Bass: Max Robinson
  • Drums: Christopher 'Noddy' Mansbridge

I love Periphery, so much, I don't know how I managed to go on for so long without listening to their original self-titled album, and I feel like I have been missing out. Icarus Lives, The Walk, Insomnia, All New Materials, and, of course, Light (probably my favorite after listening to the album a lot). I feel like this song really highlighted Spencer's vocal talents, especially with that high note towards the end, and his raw screams work really well with it as well, going from the voice of an Angel to a Wounded Ox. The guitars are also really good, but it's Periphery, of course they are. I don't know if my Periphery-posting will ever end, by the time I've been on here for a year I will have probably posted all of P1 (+ the Juggernauts) and The Amanuensis (Monuments, not Periphery) so enjoy! PLEASE REMEMBER TO USE THE PRIVACY-FRIENDLY LINKS, DON'T LET GOOGLE HAVE YOUR DATA!!! (I'm sorry for shouting, and I realistically can't force you to do anything :)

I am currently going through a lot of gender questioning, and I want to know how you all discovered your gender identities, or if you are still questioning yourself. I think that I am probably not cis, but as we all know, gender isn't black and white. I'm identifying as non-binary right now, but I have had a lot of times throughout my life, including now, where I may have wanted to be more feminine, or even a woman. Especially after lurking on this site and looking at the trans megathreads, I find myself relating to a lot of what is being said. Overall, I recently feel like I have either hit a wall or just opened up a part of myself that I thought I had already solved, so I think that the experiences of others might help me figure myself out.

P.S. I don't know if this is the appropriate comm, it made a little more sense than the trans comm, since it said it was more of a meme comm, and this is not a meme. Mods, please take it down if it's the wrong comm; I'll repost if I need to.

No, not the Netflix series, another Periphery post! It's overall just a great song, as well as a great closer to the companion albums Juggernaut Alpha and Juggernaut Omega. It might be my favorite album closer out of all of theirs, but I enjoy Lune as well so it's very close. They have very different feels, and if you haven't you should totally listen to the Juggernauts; together they are probably one of my favorite musical albums period. They're also concept albums, if that would convince any of you to listen. Remember to use the privacy-friendly links I provide!
