What were the two biggest issues for people going into the election? The economy (stagnate wages, inflation, cost of school, medical, housing etc it’s all wrapped up an affordability crisis) and the genocide in Gaza.

Not even close. You live in a tremendous bubble.

The first absolutely. The second not at all.

You starting off with some identity politics nonsense claim just means I dont care to fully respond to the rest of this. Its also old, because so many people on this site are clearly insufferable, bots or so idealistic they flip around to actually fighting against the causes they pretend to care about due to purity testing.

Thats the beauty to silly idealists who pretend they can't understand that hundreds of employees getting paid full time wont materialize out of thin air to keep a massive project like a web browser alive in the absence of that structure.

Posts on Lemmy feel very ephemeral to me.

It feels like so many posts end up deleted, and then unlike the obvious main alternative reddit, all of the comments, the history of those comments, their trees, and the discussions that were had along the way are gone too.

You could want to recall what someone said a week later, if they for instance, linked to something interesting, or you found more information on a topic or you simply came back late to their response, and you get nothing. No idea what happened, no information about said post, and that's it.

It feels like this happens to a very far from insignificant amount of posts and it is just one part of why Lemmy feels so short-lived/temporary/ephemeral to me.

Posts being removed means so much more, user profiles are difficult to navigate and unsearchable, there are no accumulated values publicly available, bans don't have appeals, communities don't have moderator chats, mod logs only semi work and can be circumvented (eliminating the point of having them), server up-time is a bit shaky, drama means things sometimes break with inter server communication and more.

These all feel fixable, but it just feels like a large number of things conspire to make this experience feel temporary and kind of throwaway.

I just thought, surely other people feel similarly so I pose this question to see what other people think about it.

Why does Lemmy feel ephemeral to you?

This is funny, but just to be clear, the firms that are doing automated trading have been using ML for decades and have high powered computers with custom algorithms extremely close to trading centers (often inside them) to get the lowest latency possible.

No one who does not wear their pants on their head uses an LLM to make trades. An LLM is just a next word fragment guesser with a bunch of heuristics and tools attached, so it won't be good at all for something that specialized.

The crazy thing about this piece of shit, is that he has so much hate for marginalized people, that even though he is actively being fucked by what he voted for, he can't even bring himself to lying and saying that he will vote for the opposing party, and of course in reality will continue to vote for fucking himself because he hopes it fucks the marginalized more.

Im very happy to see people aren't downplaying what a shitty guy he is here.

Like the way you treat your employees and the people you work with is shit that actually matters.

I don't give a shit if someone is clumsy for entertainment, I give a shit when their workspace is a good ol boys club, sweatshop, and then when they decide to threaten a defamation lawsuit against a former female employee they brought in under very suspect circumstances in the first place all because they couldn't find evidence within their company they admit has an awful HR department.

Just a fucking mess, and I hate that shitty people just succeed nowadays.

Probably just ironic humour.

People in Japan still have access to search engines and have brains.

Link to official blog post (somehow still blames people for correctly understanding their first statements)

Of Note:

  • No dates were specified, No commitments made.

  • Day 1 game support was not promised, just individual game support.

  • They still plan on splitting the development for RDNA1 and RDNA2 from RDNA3 and RDNA4 development, giving only the latter support for new features.

The noose keeps tightening.

Google also has been trying to argue that modifying client side javascript is equivalent to hacking.

Modifying code running on your own fucking machine, in your own fucking browser.

World is too busy deciding whether to kill minorities or tax the rich an extra few percent to make any progress on this.

I feel like a lot of people who say this don't realize how difficult this actually is for many people who live in different circumstances to them.

If you, like many, live in some urban sprawl ass area, Amazon has become the "weird part/replacement/too unique for physical stores but costs 5 times the amount shipping it in from somewhere else" central.

It's also often more convenient than some other options while being ethically just about on par.

Its like, I can buy this thing from the walmart family, the loblaws family or jeff bezos.

They all have their evil, and it rotates from time to time who is taking the cake.

Like it's certainly a consideration, like I'll sometimes pick a slower option just to not buy from amazon, but then its like.... its from Bestbuy. How much better is Bestbuy to Amazon? or Newegg?

I mean, tbh the whole inauguration has certainly knocked Amazon down a few pegs for sure, so I guess this is sort of a pre that bias.

My point is, there is a shit ton of things any one person can be doing, and different things are more or less important to different people, so do what you can, and don't expect perfection of yourself, because there will be things you do (if you're a person that tries) that the person barking at you for not being perfect in some other aspect will be doing and won't even be aware of what else you do.

You fucking wish.

In reality nudes from women look shit too.

People just generally give women a pass/see women as more attractive for the same equivalent level of attractiveness or effort for the photo. They also feel much more pressured by society to be all "WOW! I've never seen tits in my life!!! Magnifico! ✨✨🍆*

Nudes suck.

Thats my hot take.

The fucking suck, the person sending them expects you to receive them like they're gods gift to green earth and they're (the photos, not the person) just mid, so you have to act like you're a pavloved chimpanzee in full caveman mode so excited by this barely lit could be big foot sighting.

At best nudes are an indication the person sending you them wants to fuck.

They're not jerk off material. They're barely semi chub material.

They're just.... mid.

Could be the hottest person imaginable and they'd still be mid.

Its ultimately just a poorly taken picture with poor lighting, with someone who (reasonably) won't be bending over backwards to send you page 34 of the Kama Sutra.

It would be so fucking nice if it was deemed socially appropriate to say "Look lady, I don't need to see a 15th picture of your gooch from the same fucking angle" (but you know, with tact), but instead if you ever were to do that, they'd misinterpret your message as "I'm not all that sexually interested in you" rather than "I'm not all that sexually interested in every piece of evidence there is for extraterrestrial UFOs existing, but in a vaguely human shape".

Just a bit of a rant I hope was humorous but like seriously, I thought a few years back... probably like 15-20 years back, we all kinda agreed that nudes were stupid for security and revenge porn reasons, but now it seems the world is back at it again, for seemingly no reason, because next to no one is actually masturbating to these, and its like, just some fun chatting would get across the same effect or more, because it could display more personal knowledge of the other persons preferences and your desire for them.

Bah.

Seriously, articles like this are just clickbait.

They also ignore all sorts of usecases.

Like for a desktop monitor, 4k is extremely noticeable vs even 1440P or 1080P/2k

Unless you're sitting very far away, the sharpness of text and therefore amount of readable information you can fit on the screen changes dramatically.

Seems reasonable

Meanwhile in Ontario, right beside them, public funds still go to Catholic schools

I am looking for games that are visually impressive and make use of my 5090 so I can get more use out of it before it becomes second place (though I guess technically its second place to the RTX 6000 Pro Blackwell).

I have already played Cyberpunk 2077, played the heck out of it, very fun, though it has some annoyances so on subsequent playthroughs mods removed those annoyances for me which was great. This game really had a lovely skill tree customization which let you have many different play styles and the free form missions were excellent for letting you complete them in all sorts of ways.

I have also played Atomfall and just have the new DLC left to play through. Its not really that graphically challenging. It was an OK game.

I have also played Split Fiction, which is probably the absolute most fun anyone can have with another person in video game form, especially if one is used to games and the other isnt, but in other cases as well. Very relaxing and high fun to down time ratio.

Played both Robocop games as well. Ok, but not that graphically challenging.

Sort of the big thing I want to avoid is MTXs and marketing dark patterns like FOMO and especially Monetary Dark Patterns. Basically things listed on this website are things I want to avoid

For the record I play on a 4k 144hz monitor and prefer higher frame rates, like 100 ish for comfortable play without eye strain.
