I see we're just going full speed ahead with the whole attitude that Long Covid doesn't exist or doesn't matter.

Not autistic, but as a person with a chronic medical condition, damn this hits hard.

Says "I'm not sure what anyone could have done better" while explicitly stating several things that probably would have been done better by someone else 🤦

Before the Tea Party movement in the Republican party, yes I definitely could have been convinced to vote for a Republican candidate. I was actually intending to vote for John McCain for president because at that time in history, both parties really did still have their crazy branches, but the relatively rational adults who knew how to compromise for the good of the country still ran the show, and I was genuinely concerned that Obama didn't have enough political experience to be president.

Then McCain nominated Sarah Palin for his Vice President. That was such a pandering, cowardly, caving to the will of the utterly ignorant, insane extremists in the Republican party move that I voted for Obama. And then the entire Republican party got so mad that a black guy was president that they collectively lost their whole fucking minds.

Republicans no longer want to govern. They want to break things and stay in power and that's it. That's their entire platform. There's nothing to debate because they literally aren't even trying to DO anything useful. Their entire political position right now is "do the opposite of what Democrats want." They have nothing to vote FOR. People who vote Republican right now are doing so only because they're voting against the bogeymen in their own heads.

Stamets, I'm so sorry. I hadn't heard. I've lost people under bad circumstances. It's not fair. The world should stop, everything should stop moving and everyone should stop what they're doing and acknowledge the depth of loss and the void left where they used to be. But it doesn't stop moving and that's not fucking right and it's not fucking fair.

Please do whatever you need to do to take care of yourself. Just do what's next. Your only obligation in the world right now is to wake up and breathe. Everything else is bonus points. We'll be here whenever you're ready or even if you never want to talk to any of us again.

I'm so sorry that a good person is gone.

They actually do need to fly nose first, believe it or not! The warp bubble created by the nacelle has a front side and a back side. Essentially it bunches up space behind the ship and thins it out in front of the ship, turning space itself into a sort of wave that the ship surfs forward on.

This is what I remember from the TNG Tech Manual anyway

Not even cutting edge. Just the normal shit everybody gets. We're...REALLY good at keeping old people alive these days. Like shockingly good.

Unfortunately in the case of some.

Sincerely, a critical care nurse

Electricity monopoly in the US = they can price gouge, and this is literally the only reason I installed a dual fuel system with a less efficient heat pump. The Eversource electricity price hikes last year probably would have meant I couldn't afford to heat my home in the worst parts of winter here in Massachusetts.

This is how policies are killing the planet. Socialize electric utilities, upgrade the electric grid, subsidize the use of electric heat pumps so they're actually affordable for all end users, and of course more people would adopt them.

As it is, I run my heat pump as much as I can, which is like 9 months a year. Better than only having gas heat at least.

Making price per unit mandatory on all retail items sold would go a long way toward making shrinkflation transparent for the customer

I get that this post isn't reaching the intended audience here. But y'all gotta remember that the people who vote for Trump listen to celebrities like DeNiro. I'll accept fighting one celebrity with another in this particular instance. Especially when he's willing to use strong language like "evil" "no morals" "pretends to be a tough guy" and equates Trump's handling of the pandemic to the way an abusive father handles a household.

The problem is we don't care enough to have psych facilities like that. Which is why we have an entire wing of the emergency department at my hospital dedicated to holding people who are doing nothing but waiting for a bed at one of the trash facilities we actually do bother to provide. No real treatment in the emergency department except meds, but also not safe enough to send them home. Scary that there's somebody now who needs the bed in that facility more than this guy does.

I'll say I'm proud of this country the day we provide good, comfortable lifelong treatment facilities for people like this, alongside quality rest homes for our elderly. We have the resources to do it, and the fact that we don't is an absolute indictment of our society.
