back around late 90's early 00's I was pretty lucky to have a group of friends that all just hung around together. Talking like 8 or more of us and it always wound up that 3 of us would have a place together out in the sticks (it changed locations/roommates from year to year but we had a good long 5+ years of everyone being consistently together). We ended up playing basically any tabletop we could get our hands on or pirate (napster/limewire back then) and print off (we still ended up spending 100's a piece though on dice and official releases), we even ended up starting to make our own games that I still think about doing something with to this day. (all just context for how we could pull off some of what I'm about to say)

Getting EVERYONE together was rather difficult at times, people would come into stories and be quickly rotated out if they had to work or weren't available when we were wanting to continue running a story-line (multiple different DM's and storylines from different games going on in concert, still can't fathom how that all worked out looking back). So we all got pretty used to being fluid about it and no one really had any FOMO unless their character was low-level versus everyone else.

At that point it became apparent on my storyline that I was going to have to catch some people up so we started doing 1-on-1 DMing where I would spend a few hours running someone basically on a solo mission that I could tie into the rest of the story and give them something to catch up to everyone else. Sometimes we would do it before a bigger session and people showing up early could sit in or do cameo appearances to help out/etc. People are a lot more comfortable to ask questions and be involved with the story that way and translates well to the group play.

It ended up being a huge success and had some of my favorite interactions. Sometimes we would have a bunch of people over and some wanted to play and some wanted to listen to music and party so it just always felt natural and those involved really wanted to be there for it.

the irony of posting an amazon link...

hahaha, for those who like to play along, it's always fun to check the moderation history of the user under the comment with the three dot menu when someone complains about bans. I actually lol'd when I saw the ban from lemmy.ml/c/chess.

For anyone looking for other cool ideas or videos about speed of light etc

What Is The Speed of Dark? - Vsauce (13m:31s)

  • Cool older vsauce video going over shadows and light speed etc

The Faster-Than-Light Guillotine - Because Science (w/ Kyle Hill) (14m:19s)

  • Basically goes over the "FTL Scissor action" that a lot of people have covered but he does a good segment covering it.

This is rather pedantic and obfuscates the reality and consumer rights. Don't shill for big corp with that narrative, you could argue you don't "own" a book either if we're just doing silly talk in here.

that's easily dissuaded by no re-posts or reddits algorithm burying those. The problem was more likely because they were popular and highly engaged so they had to step in. Fucking "spez" is in there and you still feel the need to play devil's advocate?

ok, I was gonna be facetious and post the video mockingly but it's actually kinda funny. It seems from the clips it actually tries to follow the ball but keeps getting distracted by the referees big beautiful bald head. Future AI-AR(artificial resources instead of HR) discussions probably like, "wtf guys? You told me to track these things!?!"

Thought I would bust this out for those who haven't seen it before, two of my favorite shows in one! (I do not endorse the comments made by Pierre lol)

I know some companies offer 90-day returns etc, but what item would you think everyone would benefit from if it was an industry standard to have a test drive like new cars?

My nitpick would be microwaves. I have tried picking out what I thought was decent microwaves in the past but it's hard to know exactly how it functions without using it. For instance, my microwave has an express button (30 seconds) or a minute plus button. You can only use one of them, if you've hit the minute button the express button doesn't let you add 30 seconds while it's active and vice versa. Also the beeping, even if you hit the stop button and open the door when it gets to 0 seconds, it still goes through it's "I'm done" beeping which is loud and repetitive making you stop it at 1 second and still having to click cancel which makes noise. So what's your choice?

These guys have quickly become one of my new favorite creators to follow. Their dedication and creativity reminds me of Joel Haver with the depth of some of their videos (slightly different genre I would say though).

Two other videos I would recommend in order: Perfect-Timing Villian (staring Dante Basco, Rufio from "Hook") and a kinda sequel to that, A Villain's Perfect Mind Palace (this video made me realize this wasn't just a casual comedy group but seriously talented and making bits that just completely pull you in).

Starting to transfer to a spreadsheet instead of my usual paper notebook I list all my electronics in to get a grasp on all my parts (towers, laptops, memory, motherboards, videocards, etc). Lately I've been on a kick of labeling all my shelves (medicine, linen, kitchenware) and trying to sort things into random plastic bins I've had laying around waiting for a purpose.

I realize I could dive into deep rabbit holes for every category. With electronics I'm thinking of documenting every chip, board, and component along with compatibilities. Pantries and personal goods could be inventoried and auto-reordered, better tracking of my tools and materials with service reminders for equipment, etc etc.

I've gone through years where I throw everything away and get rid of anything not used recently and years where I horde everything and anything. Seems moderation in both is key and why keeping it all in mind and documented seems like the right thing to do if you have the time to kill.

tldr, what tips or tricks do you use to keep up with all your shit?

I get so tired of seeing people hand-wave away democracy like it's some kind of amateur sport. This is not how fair and impartial primaries are ran. We can recognize the tech-monopolies and the unfair practices (and untold wealth) they use to squash competition but when it comes to elections? shrug

something doesn''t feel right....

This just sounds like common sense to me. I never understood why government "secure" equipment uses foreign or public systems. I know the cost of such a type of system could be astronomical for a country but it can greatly increase and create competition for tech components. I'm at the point where if you need internet access to function in everyday society then that needs to be provided by the government and a system like the one I described could fill that void and create a lot of jobs.

I feel like I stumbled into a very innocent and unaware thread involving stimulants and the world. People bickering about whether or not you should include caffeine or proper sleep in your schedule, while the rest of the world is just downing copious amounts of drugs trying to keep up and sane (neither are possible).

huh TIL.

Radio frequency -- RF waves do not respond to the dead layer of skin on the outside of your finger -- the part that might be chapped or too dry to be read with much accuracy -- and instead reads only the living tissue underneath. This produces an extremely precise image of your print, and ensures that a severed finger is completely useless.... This means that the Touch ID sensor should be remarkably accurate for living creatures, but it also means that only a finger attached to a beating heart will be able to unlock it. source
