Why won't you just use a 3rd party keyboard and messaging app if you loathe those? It's not like apple forces anyone to stick with the stock apps if you don't like them. I use Gboard and Whatsapp/Messenger and they are pretty much what you would get on android as well!

Just remember the handheld usually runs in a lower rez and you'll be fine :)
