The pandemic is likely responsible for a lot of it, even though people don't want to talk about it. Covid is proven to reduce IQ, every infection is damaging the brian and the key finding is that people aren't aware its happened to them.
They also spread the truth as well even when government and media have conspired to obscure it. Social media has led to people beating companies, governments and politicians simply by providing an avenue to share reality. Social media defends democracy and protects democracy. There has always been an enormous power balance issues between the elites and the peasants and social media for the first time is allowing the peasants to speak to each other rather than the only voice being the elites through their media platforms.
It never has been just a winter virus, its still wave after wave and doesn't seem particularly interested in a pattern. There has for a few years been a vague summer and winter pattern but then this year its mostly just hit a wave in Autumn. Its still doing its pandemic thing with new variants, immune waning and events being the driving force of new waves.
This sort of thing is a lot better suited to a local AI, it isn't going to suddenly become publicly accessible because a big corporation "accidentally" shared all your data.

When given the option the population chooses consume more every single time. When you ask voters if Climate change matters a super majority says it does but when they rank it alongside other issues its at the bottom of the list, with things that will pollute more higher in the list. Politicians are reading that signal correctly, consume the planet because all the caring is purely performative. When it comes to protests to try and change the situation most people find themselves wanting the disruption to end, and thus join the polluters side. They don't actually care and their own behaviour shows that they don't. Humanity doesn't have a future, we are going to shoot on through to the worst case scenario and extinction.
I stopped contributing to open source code because of it. I consider it stupid now to contribute to public work because it will be almost instantly stolen and laundered through an AI that breaches the license its published under.
I really hope very soon our government finally admits there is a genocide occurring in Gaza and stops trying to delay what obviously must be done and stop our involvement in it. While calling out the West Bank settlers its also failed to blame the Israeli government directly for the atrocities being committed there and in Gaza.
This is comparing to the excess deaths. In the UK excess deaths expected a year were increased by 75,000 a year in 2023 to hide the COVID deaths. Officially it was due to an aging population, which obviously did not increase that much in two years there is a clear step due to COVID. Despite that change there were still excess deaths as the toll reached over 100k a year. The ONS has changed how they calculate it again last year and it's tricky to undo the more complex hiding approach so the deaths are now officially baked in. So the UKs standing in this isn't likely accurate, the extent to which the UK went to hide not just deaths but excess deaths was extensive and still is.
This started long before Trump, fascism has been growing in popular support ever since the 2008 financial crisis. Its better funded now than it was but its been a long term project for the far right and they have found their trigger issues they need to lie about to convince the populace to vote them in. There will be no deprogramming fascism, it proved impossible after World War 2 and it will prove impossible now as well.
We will hit 2.0 C for a year in the early 2030s and 3.0C by 2050. This is already baked in and we are still accelerating CO2 production. The only way out of this is significant carbon capture and we have no technology to do this effectively at all.
The real battle here is about DRM and the ability of these games companies to stop people being able to play games, resell and do ownership things with their games. This is going to require government intervention that much has been clear for a long while.
