AI is a pseudoscience that conflates a plagiarism-fueled lying machine with a thinking, living human mind. Fuck off.

Found a damn-good sneering of AI art on Newgrounds recently - highly recommend checking it out.

Hank Green (of Vlogbrothers fame) recently made a vaguely positive post about AI on Bluesky, seemingly thinking "they can be very useful" (in what, Hank?) in spite of their massive costs:

Unsurprisingly, the Bluesky crowd's having none of it, treating him as an outright rube at best and an unrepentant AI bro at worst. Needless to say, he's getting dragged in the replies and QRTs - I recommend taking a look, they are giving that man zero mercy.

Starting things off here with a sneer thread from Baldur Bjarnason:

Keeping up a personal schtick of mine, here's a random prediction:

If the arts/humanities gain a significant degree of respect in the wake of the AI bubble, it will almost certainly gain that respect at the expense of STEM's public image.

Focusing on the arts specifically, the rise of generative AI and the resultant slop-nami has likely produced an image of programmers/software engineers as inherently incapable of making or understanding art, given AI slop's soulless nature and inhumanly poor quality, if not outright hostile to art/artists thanks to gen-AI's use in killing artists' jobs and livelihoods.

I do feel like active anti-scraping measures could go somewhat further, though - the obvious route in my eyes would be to try to actively feed complete garbage to scrapers instead - whether by sticking a bunch of garbage on webpages to mislead scrapers or by trying to prompt inject the shit out of the AIs themselves.

Me, predicting how anti-scraping efforts would evolve

(I have nothing more to add, I just find this whole development pretty vindicating)

what’s fucking bizarre is the Iron Man writers seem to swear their version of Tony Stark was based on Musk, and we know now Musk’s nothing like that. so looking back with more seasoned eyes: how much of the first Iron Man was just propaganda too? of course there’s all the libertarian shit — whose idea was all that, actually?

You want my suspicion, Marvel were probably taking their cues from the public image SpaceX/Tesla's marketing and/or Musk's PR team had put out about the guy - as an eccentric genius par excellence who'd save humanity from global warming and/or get us to Mars.

In other news, there's been a statement on AI training that's racked up over 10k signatures, which is unsurprisingly lambasting the rampant stealing that went into creating the autoplag machines:

Now, I'm way too much of a fan of sidenotes, so I'll whip one out:

Beyond simple content theft being publicly lambasted, I suspect that even licensed use of artists' work for gen-AI will ignite some controversy - if Eagan Tilghman's run-in with controversy last year is any indication, any usage of gen-AI, regardless of context, will be met with hostility.

Etsy: an artistic one-stop chop shop where slop pops up like catch crops - and that quick shot's no hatchet-job, so keep it from pops 'fore it leaves him in a strop:

Etsy sucks

(Full disclosure: the opportunity for some quickfire rhymes may have played a role in birthing this sneer.)

"Not Like Us" was less scathing than this. Fucking hell.
