Epstein was likely embedded into this system as a black mailing agent by someone who already knows it.

The ICE part seems a bit extreme though. I think the whole reason ICE is allowd to act like this is to terrorise immigrants, ethnic minorities etc so they leave the US in their own accord. And what easier way to terrorise people than to stalk their kids like a bunch of pedos.

I suspect that is not the only reason but it definitely contributes. Insurance companies are like the bacteria growing on a festering wound making it worse. Otherwise medicine and biotech research/operation is not cheap, personalized medicine even more expensive. The R&D is many times carried out by private companies who mostly care for profit. So fixing healthcare requires more than just getting rid of insurance companies (though they should definitely be gone). Alot of goverment support and correct use of taxes is required too. If healthcare remains a profitable business leeches will always try to profit out of it even if it means average healthcare for most, ultra specialized cutting edge tech for rich (assuming insurance companies are gone but goverment does not support healthcare as much as it should).

Or maybe, first they ask you out and then a decade later ask your daughter out

I can tell with confidence that it will be very hard for a dumb person to get a PhD in physics or maths from a reputable university, if not impossible. Can't speak for other branches that I have no experince of or the totality of PhD level education. But if you really insist, we can also condition on things like not cheating, their parents not being a major donor etc etc.

"Operating at the scale of many biological microorganisms, the robots could advance medicine..."

Probably won't be the first use case:

"When Miskin and Blaauw first met at a presentation hosted by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) five years ago..."

I don't have much hope that it will be used for the benefit of the average human but pretty cool tech otherwise.

I used sync for a while then once it became sort of dead tried a couple others and settled with boost. The most important factor is that it is the only Lemmy app (that I could find) that orders saved posts according to the time you saved them and not when it was created.

ps: After looking at some of the comments here I checked a couple others and jerboa also does the same

So we should also trust health insurance companies' CEOs' ideas about how health care should be structured? If they are likely to put their company's interest above anything else, then this is a very valid question. And big corporations are notorious for doing exactly this.

I mean it is not unimaginable that someone with low moral standards may be exaggerating the risks involved to fear monger governments etc to work with them. It is a general distrust of big corporations that make people here skeptical. If companies like meta, google, tesla etc have no reservations about doing extremely shitty and dodgy things and also able to come out of those with net positive effects, why wouldn't this guy? When someone says "corporations should not set defense policy", they don't actually mean setting it on a governmental level. What they mean is that they should not even be able to inform policies because they are likely putting their interest above other ethical considerations.
