"No" is a very powerfull word.

If you are a minor and didn't have a choice, I sincerely sympathize with your fate.

I seem to be having trouble responding to some comments.

To answer a few points, my mother is in her 90s. She is not suffering from dementia, but she doesn't deal well with not getting her way. She throws tantrums in public. So it is easier just to go along with her wishes. One of my sisters had the police called on her for elder abuse once because my mother was throwing such a fit about how mean her daughter was to random strangers. Edit: if you've seen the episode of Malcolm in the Middle where Lois's evil mother comes to visit, and they call the police on her when she refuses to leave, and she plays the pity card to the cops and almost gets Hal arrested? That's my mother.

This trip was the first time I had seen her in 2 years. I took her to the casino with the agreement that I would wait outside, but of course she pretended to be looking for me in the casino, security called me thinking she was lost, and when I went in she insisted we go eat there rather than heading back to the vacation rental. I couldn't exactly leave my elderly mother there and go back to the vacation rental without her.

I got home a week ago and don't plan on calling her for a while. I am still pissed off.

Sheesh, I don't blame you.

My sympathies to you, (not that you need it but) it sounds like a really rough time! I don't know if I'd have the energy to deal with adult tantrums when I have a migraine so I completely understand and don't blame you for taking time for yourself now that you can.

Are you in Vegas? I went there for my honeymoon and stayed at the South Point hotel. It had a bowling alley in it as well.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

It was in Palm Springs, California. I think Fantasy Point?

"You know what would make you feel better? Clattery noises, excited people, loud carpet, bright lights, hard chairs, and fried food smells."

I know someone who was having a rough time at work so her boyfriend took her out for a meal to make her feel better. To Five Guys… and she’s vegetarian.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Did it work? I'd imagine she felt way better after the breakup

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

She does actually feel a lot better now that she’s not with him and has found someone nicer.

Bright FLASHING lights!

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago

This just screams USA to me.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Others have already commented on the insanity of her forcing you to go to a bowling alley with a migraine, so I just want to add: eat? At a BOWLING ALLEY? Goodness, the food alone would be horrible enough without a migraine. I’m so sorry and don’t blame you for taking some time to distance yourself from your mom.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

She has a stomach like cast iron, and wanted greasy fried food.

The weird part is, she's from Italy and is a big food snob, but when she comes to the US she wants to eat gross food.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

Well she has a lot of choices in that regard!

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How are you still alive? I have to remove batteries from clocks around the house during a migraine because even the ticking noise is too much...

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Gabapentin. Miracle drug.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

How does anyone do anything with a migraine? I literally feel like Im going to die from them.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

Its tough. I take massive amounts of meds.

If my mother wasn't 93 and acting like a toddler, I'd have left her there alone.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

My wife is like that, she can still function (though I guess it costs her) while I'm totally knocked out by mines.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Oh gawd. Sitting through all this when having normal stress headache itself is impossible. I would have puked and collapsed into a fetal position. Not sure how you even pulled it off. Also time to get a new mom.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

She's a narcissistic bitch, and I try to limit my exposure to her as much as possible.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

At least you'll be able to empathise with the bowling balls.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Damn these things really do look exactly the same everywhere

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Bowlero set the style. Now they all look them.

Some bowling alleys have good food. There's one big one in my city that has a gigantic Boston Pizza, arcade, escape rooms, and more all in one building. The Boston Pizza is great. They have solid food.

[–] HobbitFoot 6 points 1 year ago

At that point, I'd throw up publicly.

But in a tub or something. I'm not a monster.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

But (Bowling alley) carpet... carpet never changes.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have chronic migraine. It can be very difficult for people to understand that not all of my migraines are severe because they have a family member/friend that has them and every time they have to be in a dark room, no noise, etc. A lot of my migraines are moderate and I can mostly function but it is miserable. I have gotten pretty good at saying not today.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah, exactly. My migraine got much worse as the night wore on. I took a ton of gabapentin and Ubrelvy just to get through it.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

While I'd rather not be at a casino, bowling seems like a better way to pass time there to me. At least I understand the game and how much it costs.

You're an adult. The blame lays in the mirror.
