“You know and I know it’s the toughest, most efficient, most effective border security bill this country’s ever seen,” Biden said. “So instead of playing politics with the issue, why don’t we just get together and get it done?”

Biden touted the bipartisan border bill as “a win for the American people,” calling it a “truly bipartisan initiative.” He called on the Senate to reconsider the bill, asking senators to “set politics aside” and for House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., to put the bill on the floor.

“We need to act,” Biden said, adding that Republicans in Congress needed to “show a little spine.”

Because Trump wins as long as you don't "get it done". Stop acting like the turnip is a rational actor motivated by what's best for the country. He's not.

Also... we don't need "tough" border control. We need more immigration judges and resources for courts so they can process people faster, get immigrants and migrants seeking asylum processed and legal faster; so they're in and out of the system and productive members. we need a legal and effecient path to citizenship. (or at least, green cards/work visas.)

Regular voters hear headlines like "Millions Illegally Crossed" and "Undocumented Crime Wave"; they naturally blame Biden because he's an incumbent. The recent Gallup polls are alarming.

Biden should have focused American businesses that hired illegals, not punishing migrants for wanting a better life. Trump along with many GOP donors have hired illegals in the past, go after them and you win the debate.

Isn't that exactly the point Biden makes with that?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Yes, it’s clear as day that he’s trying to illustrate that Trump isn’t interested in actually solving problems. And if he actually takes the bait and does it, it would basically force the GOP’s hand in Congress to pass a bill.

And yet, in the meantime he’s gone so far right on immigration that we’ll take decades to come back from that.

Decades which will only see increased migration across the globe as people try to survive climate change.

Good lord what a dumb move. You are running against an insurrectionist opponent and you give their influence legitimacy.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It's a decent move to expose that Trump does not want work for a solution. he works for the fame

[–] [email protected] 26 points 8 months ago (5 children)

This will neither reach nor influence any Trump voters, only potential Biden voters.

Neoliberals are probably as responsible for normalizing republicans as Faux News.

To rationalize why they're better than progressives, they have to say Republicans make "some good points".

Because you clearly do not know what that term means.

Biden would rather appeal to xenophobic reactionaries about the border than address the concerns from his own base on Israel.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (3 children)

No, Biden is showing that there is no interest in solving the issue.

Giving trump any legitimacy is a mistake imho, but that's another subject.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Correct. He's calling the GOP bluff and forcing them to move on from the border issue, by exposing it as a non issue

[–] [email protected] 0 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Biden s comments give trump legitimacy because he's saying it's one of the largest issues facing America...

When it's not.

And the majority of Dem voters understand that.

So this hurts Biden, and doesn't do a damn thing but help trump because it makes it look like Biden agrees with him after Dems just spent 7 years saying Trump was horrible for this and lying about how big of an issue it is.

Some voters may be stupid enough not to put all that together. But they're the ones that show up and vote the same every election with zero thought about it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

It doesn't hurt Biden at all. It won't change the opinions of anyone planning to vote for him.

The only thing it will do is cause further division on the right. A right-winger now has to choose whether being anti-immigration or anti-Biden is more important.

And who is he trying to show that to?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Undecided voters, and voters that do care about the border but not nessicarily buy into the maga cult.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

I.e. xenophobic reactionaries

[–] [email protected] -1 points 8 months ago

There are no concerns from me on his stance. Let Israel finish the fight..

[–] [email protected] 0 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Biden wants to commit Genocide so badly he's gives up on the left and tries to win over Republican voters

Someone remind him that Republican voters will never vote D

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

Have a bit of a working hypothesis that current GOP and DNC is built around seeing if America is ready for fascism or not yet. If Trump wins, there you go... But the DNC really is starting to look like how the states viewed the GOP before the upfront radicalization in 2016.

I suspect if Biden wins, the GOP will become irrelevant over the next 4 years, and the DNC will fracture into two parties. One that represents the previous GOP, and one that represents the previous DNC with the status quo not changing.

Takes tinfoil hat off

But that's just unhinged speculation. I'm entirely ready to be wrong in hopes of a more hopeful future.

Same day he threatened muslims with Trump if they didnt vote for him, he was offering deals with the person he claims to vehemently oppose.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Yep, it’s called democracy. Even the guy you oppose gets a vote.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

Trump already inserted himself into the process when he got his cronies in Congress to kill the border deal.

All Biden did was step up and ask him to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Knowing of course that Trump has no intention of being part of the solution.

This then gives Biden the opportunity to say later, in a debate, or in an ad campaign:

"Hey Jack, we gave you a chance to do the right thing on the border crisis, you rejected it, that's on you. Get your idiots in congress to stop blocking the progress."
