General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

[email protected] appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

A frightening trend indeed. Remember one MP was shot down during the Brexit campaign. Also, local mayors are being frightened almost daily in France, mostly when they advocate for migrants' rights.

Jo Cox, she was a wonderful woman and we owe it to her, and to history, to remember her name. She was murdered for her views, not only on Brexit, but on comprehensive support of Syrian people (not just handling ISIS/IL but Asad too) and of Gazan people.

Anyone downplaying the idea of threats to MPs has a disgracefully short fucking memory. People can be radicalised to many views and many places on the political spectrum and we need to at minimum remember that extremists can have strange (and unwilling) bedfellows.

Though in this case, the threats are coming from pro-Palestine campaigners, who are not generally on the right.

Just Stop Oil leaders have also said to protest outside MPs houses in the past, which is a completely scummy thing to do.

Yes, this is a dark and saddening trend embraced by many.

Almost as if people were more and more convinced that only violent acts can bring change.

The "threats" are not coming from anywhere. Nowhere in this article does it even hint that anyone has been threatened. This is a generic risk assessment story being spun out beyond credibility to save Labour blushes from the bullshit and other night.

The women – who have not been named but include both Conservative and Labour members of parliament – have had their security upgraded as MPs are said to be “petrified” at the abuse they are facing.

Firstly, it’s not just Labour, secondly, I’d call that a “hint” at being threatened.

Don’t downplay abuse that’s been assessed as a risk to life, then play the tactician about “generic risk assessment” it makes you seem callow.
