Honestly surprised that headline didn't end with "but at what cost?"

I wonder if they've cottoned on to the fact that its become a meme and are realising they need to come up with a new smear tactic.

Oh oh oh oh! No one's said it yet! I got it everyone!

"BUT AT WHAT COST???"

Did the article mention the thorium reactor that they're building in the Gobi? The Guardian also did a piece about China's green energy progress, and the thorium tech was completely ignored.

Between China having huge thorium reserves and the same reactor tech being able to run on nuclear waste, they're opening up a path to removing fossil fuels energy entirely.

Did the article mention the thorium reactor that they’re building in the Gobi?

They finished it recently, it got permit to start operating. It was even completed a year ahead of schedule, China seems to be intensifying their energy R&D.

Not to mention that China wants to build thousands of these reactors all over the country, and even send them out to dozens of countries as a start, and China will be able to power their entire country for 20,000 years.

Does any other country have carbon emission peaking and carbon neutrality targets?

[–] [email protected] 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Never ask a woman her age, a man his salary, or a liberal democracy it's emission goals.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Unfortunately, the liberal democracy will tell you anyway, because they like being loud about having the goals. They just don't do anything about them.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 year ago

Well the EU has many great carbon neutrality targets. Not sure if we reach them tho, lol.

As for peaking of CO2 emissions. A handful of countries have reached a peak a few years ago. The chance is good they will never come back to that level again. https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/consumption-co2-per-capita?time=latest
