"The tankie migration..." ๐ค

A tech news sub for communists
Especially after the tankie migration, there were definitely some people who saw the front page and clicked away.
[Y]ou would maybe see a text post of someone mocking western reporting on the Uyghur genocide.
There was one lemmy instance that ran on ideals of free speech. [...] Honestly the owner, though definitely right wing, was a pretty chill guy, [...] Kinda unfortunate the instance died, considering people still complain about lack of ideological diversity on Lemmy.

Lemmygrad was on Lemmy since pretty much the beginning, and Hexbear joined the next year in July 2020. So who were these tankies who migrated, and when?
Might be referring to r/genZedong/ getting quarantined, that's when we had a big influx of comrades here.
I just realized the portmanteau "gen Zedong" makes less sense to Americans because they pronounce it zee.
haha yeah that doesn't have the same ring to it
As an american, I'm now confused. How should it be pronounced?
"z" is typically "zed" in Bri'ish English
Ahhh, Okay.
So I would normally say 'gen zee dong', but its really 'gen "zed"-ong'.
"Jen zee dong" still works in real English.
The devs are communists, as mentioned in the title. Not bad people or anything, but definitely very leftist*.
* from the point of view of many leftists, they're not very far left, and liberals are, in fact, right wing. I'm going with a more average definition here
The author saw someone calling Dessalines a lib with respect to 1 specific thing and took it really seriously
Ugh, Liberals. One day MLs are ultra-leftist tankies, the next we're not even really that left. I feel whiplash right now.
Tbf Mastodon has been able to thrive as well despite eugen being a liberal. Most other reddit alternatives were created by and for the bottom of the barrel fascists.
To be fair, Mastodon also took a hard stance on banning right wing content from the start, and instances have been doing a good job banning the fash and defederating them. So, similar dynamic there as well.
Who's blog is this? It only has 2 articles and both are about Lemmy.
if the admins saw something messed up, it was gone, with your account probably soon to follow. I never had the chance to take part in forums on the "old internet", but from my understanding it was similar to them, where the moderators knew a troll when they saw one, generally didn't take much shit, and the members mostly were fine with it.
Does the lib finally understand how to build healthy communities?
This, as you can guess, scared off most right-wingers. I saw plenty of people from r/RedditAlternatives go there and come back complaining about censorship or commies.
This probably saved Lemmy.
Ooh, he might have a point ๐
you would maybe see a text post of someone mocking western reporting on the Uyghur genocide
Nah, he still bleeds fascist
Honestly the owner , though definitely right wing, was a pretty chill guy, and he believed in federation and stuff. Kinda unfortunate the instance died
Yup, still a fascist
But yeah, that's how Lemmy's devs, through no fault of their own, probably saved lemmy
God I wish Libs could hear themselves the way we do. The fucking conspiratorial way they sound. "Well the devs accidentally saved lemmy by actually being progressives and caring about a healthy communities.. Dumb tankies..." I don't want to be all stereotypical but OPEN YOUR FUCKING EYES LIBS
Edit: Sorry got fired up about this one. I'm calming down as soon as I posted. I still think libs are dumb tho.
Not too bad for a lemmy lib. Basicaly as fair as they could make it.
