On this day in 1894, the anti-colonial Donghak Peasant Rebellion began with the "Gobu Uprising", where 1,000 peasants stormed the county of Gobu, freeing prisoners, occupying government buildings, and causing the county ruler to flee.

The Donghak Peasant Rebellion was an uprising that took place in late Joseon-era Korea during the 1890s. "Donghak" refers to a religious movement, founded in 1860, which preached for social equality and the uplifting of the peasantry. Choe Jeu was executed by the state in 1864.

Amidst a backdrop of growing foreign influence in Korea (which would eventually lead to colonization by Japan), Donghak peasants rebelled against oppression by feudal rulers. The uprising began in the county of Gobu in Jeolla province, where the magistrate had extorted vast amounts of wealth and forced the peasants to build a reservoir.

On January 10th, 1894, approximately 1,000 peasant rebels gathered at an empty horse ranch, from which they split off into two separate armies where they successfully destroyed three of Gobu's four gates, occupied government offices, and set about destroying prisons and freeing the people held in them.

As rebels successfully defeated government forces, unrest would spread across the country, and the panicked Joseon dynasty called for Chinese Qing dynasty for support. Doing this, however, aggrieved the Japanese government, which was competing with China for influence over Korea.

Japan invaded Korea, occupying Seoul, triggering the First Sino-Japanese War. Following a temporary truce, the peasant rebellion would resume in October, this time directed towards the Japanese occupation.

The Japanese proved successful in defeating the uprising, however, continuing to quell rebels through 1895. Korea would become increasingly absorbed into Japan's sphere of influence before official annexation in 1910.

thinky-felix I wonder what Barack Obama is up to, like, in the long term? He made a life plan for himself at some point. Harvard professor to senator to president in quick succession. Eight years of status quo leading the ship, retires in good graces. Publish a few articles and lots of social media content, make Very Serious statements about current thing. Then spend the next several decades pulling the strings of the DNC, molding it into his vision of the party. Where are you taking us Barack?

There's a Danish genre (Yes I said genre) of movie/television that has died out which is just working class people living in shitty apartments doing hijinks, mostly to avoid paying rent, renovate their apartments, avoid the authorities discovering their illegal renovations or declaring their shitty apartments unsuitable for habitation so they'll have to move out, and falling in love, and I think such a genre has never been more relevant.

Dude I work with who's from Cuba and I de-gusanoed over the course of 2 years, blowback season 2 did most of the work for me, is jealous of my French speaking and said he'd totally trade Spanish for French. I've thought the other way around numerous times and I wish there was a link cable for language so we could trade.

Edit: also why on earth would you rather know French than Spanish? Outside of Quebec and France the places it's spoken are far spread and a lot are weird as hell. Speaking Spanish means you can talk to most of a continent and also a silly place in Europe. French gives you fucking Quebec, Cajun guys, Port Esclavage and Paris.

I'm kind of like happy the internet a thing, I was just thinking about how like. How lonelier things would be if the internet wasn't around. Just mainly because like irl, I have trouble speaking to people because speech issues, so like. At least like on here or like texting or wherever with text, I can communicate better, without like. people constantly misunderstanding what im saying or having a hard time understanding anything I say even when they get to know me. and it just very socially isolating a lot.

but if the internet wasn't around. I dunno what I do. Pen pal stuff? I dunno, but I was just thinking how like, life or this world, is a lot different when people have trouble understanding a thing I say, and just how very lonely that already kind of just been. also helpless feeling to at times when people literally cant understand what I say no matter how hard I try to articulate things. or like if a place is just a little too loud, then no one understands and I just have to be quiet until it gets quieter or go somewhere quieter. or like, just having to smile and give up what im saying.

just ugh, I dunno. but it's cool the internet a thing, despite it's numerous issues.

Making fantasy dwarves be based on a weird mix of Scandinavian and Scottish culture ultimately makes little clan, sure the dwarves originally came from Scandinavian mythology but at this point there's basically no relation. Further, Scandinavia doesn't have nearly as big a culture of mining and quarries as dwarves are supposed to, and the Scottish thing is just for the accent. I propose we look to a real culture focused on digging up precious rocks from the ground. I propose that from now on all dwarves adopt a Botswanan aesthetic
This would serve the twin purpose of making fantasy more authentic, and pissing off a lot of people.

Collei is a playable Dendro character in Genshin Impact.

She has appeared in the official Manga and serves as one of its main characters. Originally a victim of Fatui human experimentation, Collei wandered the world as a vagrant until she met Amber in Mondstadt. Since then, Collei has turned her life around, and currently serves as a trainee Forest Ranger in the Avidya Forest.

Lol fast five is very dedicated to the dadcore genre. They somehow filmed it so it feels like motion interpolation is on. I keep checking to see my tv's settings aren't wrong.
