News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

MODERATORS

Since Reddit admin have made it impossible to delete posts by hindering tools' access to the API and by simply reinstating them from archives, has anyone tried simply batch editing them to something guaranteed to get banned? I'm currently using Redact.dev's software to edit all existing comments and posts to something that will get my account banned from most subs. We'll see if it works.

Not worth it imo. Reddit doesn't get any more of my time, if it isn't necessary.

Agreed. I’m just trying to reduce their profit from any time I spent there in the past as well.

Is Redact any good? I've been thinking about using it on my Twitter account but I was struggling to find info about how safe/good it is.

It worked for me for a couple days until Reddit reinstated my comments from archives which really pissed me off.

Change all your comments to something about Lemmy, might get you banned

If you successfully edit them all first, maybe - allegedly Reddit doesn't keep any edit history so the only message they could then restore is that edited one. But getting your account banned does absolutely nothing to the messages unless the admins deem it necessary to wipe it (spam etc). Removing your own account would at least orphan them marking the poster as [deleted].

Case in point, akwardtheturtle has finally been suspended and has no moderator privileges anymore, but all of their messages are still visible and shown as being posted by a mod.

This is good info. I’m only keeping the account to edit and delete old messages. Once they stop reappearing, I plan to delete the login.

They did? I nuked my account yesterday. I guess I got lucky!

I spent a week manually deleting everything reddit showed me, until the comment / post list permanently displayed "this user hasn't posted anything" and "there seems to be nothing here" for two days in a row. Then I used "shreddit" and it found and deleted a whooping 981 MORE comments that reddit somehow chose to not show me. My account is deleted now, but some of the comments are STILL visible (just no longer attributed to me and instead "posted by [deleted]". I can even outright google them if I type my old username into the search bar.

There is definitely something fishy going on.
