Why would I make up dystopian stuff, when I can just open the news

A crowd-sourced app that maps all of the homeless people and tent encampments in every neighborhood of your city. Like snapchat.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

Nextdoor already exists.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

Amazon now agrees to pay a million dollar fine every month for its labor violations of paying workers exclusively in its own crypto currency. This agreement has been very profitable.

...its labor violations of paying workers exclusively in its own crypto currency.

Hold up! What!? They do that?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Let me add to this falsehood:

The crypto wallets that bezos gives the employees are suspiciously insecure. These wallets sometimes "accidentally" transfer funds back to the employer not authorized by the employee. The crypto bro CEO of Amazon insists that the employees take personal responsibility for their crypto wallets. It is noted that wallets for Amazon coin don't have this issue if the wallets are not issued to employees. Employees are expected to "get gud" and secure their own crypto wallets by buying a better crypto wallet from Amazon in Dollars. Employees are incentivized to hype up this crypto currency in order to make their pay go up.

Let me add to this falsehood

Oh, right, I forgot this was the make up a dystopia thread. I could easily see it getting to that point, though.

Starbucks is already available at all US military camps. There is a McDonalds and Starbucks on board all mainline US aircraft carriers.

A Subway, Pizza Hut, McDonald, and Starbucks are all very common for a US army base anywhere in the world.

Guantánamo Bay McDonald's

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 year ago

Truly the most insulting act of colonization is to build a McDonald's on stolen land in a country that otherwise has none.

A suscription based model for kitchen appliances like a microwave. Many people technically already do by buying it with a credit card in a 12 month payment or smt but i think we are very close to a future where these appliances are 'free' but cost a monthly suscription forever and a chip makes it so it doesnt work if it isn't connected to the internet and with a paid suscription. I think we are very close to moving to that sort of business model unfortunely.

"You will own nothing and you will like it."

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

I saw some "Smart Oven" kitchen thing that you insert meal kits into and it spits out finished meals. It required a companion subscription to get the meal kits that you put into it. I didn't look too far into it to see if it was possible to use the thing without the subscription, it seemed like not.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

already happening with cars.. it's only a matter of time before we own absolutely nothing at all

Postmodernists get a hold of their own special little defeatist religion.

Here’s your dystopia. We now have to stream garbage online for a living. The USA has been taken over by “online” culture. Capitalism has created an online-based society where the youth are pushed to be online and make shit Youtube videos in order to earn a living. Teens want to stream their own content , and social media and streaming platforms have become the only way they can attain financial success and the attention they desire. There is an increasing social incompetence among those people. This lack of social bonds has led to an increased reliance on online communication and interactions, making it harder for people to develop and maintain real-world relationships. This capitalist decadence is embraced by some and forced on others who are not interested in online content creation, but have no choice due to lack of fucking opportunities.

In reality, however, this dystopian crap is never going to continue if Marxists take control.

Considering China did an excellent job combating this online culture bs, as well as the fact that most ML's aren't fucking Gamers and can see this spiritual opium for what it is…

Lenin's definition of capitalist decadence: According to Vladimir Lenin, capitalism had reached its highest stage and could no longer provide for the general development of society. He expected reduced vigor in economic activity and a growth in unhealthy economic phenomena, reflecting capitalism's gradually decreasing capacity to provide for social needs and preparing the ground for socialist revolution in the West.

oh look, another "marxist" shaming people for having fun and enjoying stuff and not grueling and suffering all the time 😒

I agreed with what you said until you insulted star wars. Your opinion has now been discarded.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

The Star Wars thing i said was a joke. I was not shaming anyone for liking scifi lol. I like Star Trek but not star wars personally 🤓

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Pre-disney was fine post-disney is crap, sorry.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

You've obviously never watched Rogue One or Andor. That's a vague generalization.

An oligarch buys a massive social media app, fucking it up horrendously, then decides to change the name to a single letter be ause he is the cringiest fuck to ever exist who thinks he's like the real love version of Tony Stark mixed with Neo from the Matrix......

Oh...

Wait...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

What about a city where they make people pay money to sit down on benches for a limited amount of time or else they'll get poked by spikes coming out of the seat..

Now imagine that the whole concept of these benches were created as a hyperbolic representation of the alienating commodification that capitalism brings, but the capitalists thought they were a good idea anyway....

that would be absolutely bonkers. i sure am glad those dont exist

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

What if there was a cyclic cataclysm every few hundred years and only the learned capitalist elite class was aware of it and built bunkers and underground cities with all the money they have taken from the working class to ensure their survival while plotting to enslave the survivors using technology and AI?

Just something I'm currently writing a near-future scifi novel about after getting quite deep into the whole topic of Tartaria/mudfloods, antiquititech, fake history, plasma events and UFOs.

I'm aware of some racist/right wing connotations of these topics and that some other narratives have been captured by Christian Right Wingers as well. Please know and trust that I'm anarchist who just wants everyone to live in peace and that I despise the Right with all my heart. I just don't think we should leave every interesting topic to them.
