As I'm not using it actively for months and want to stop using it, I want to delete my Twitter account. However I still have one use-case that prevents me doing that. My city local police is sending some traffic related news only on Twitter and I use the notification functionality of Twitter official client to be informed as soon as they post something.

I have tested some open source Twitter client which works pretty well for looking at content in my opinion but none of them have the capacity to push a notification when a post is done in a specific followed account.

Do you have some recommendations (it would be best if it's open source but I'm not completely closed to "free as in free beer" alternatives) ?

Thanks.

Haven't thought about RSS for years but yeah it's a good idea.

Tried with Feeder as RSS client and seems to suit my use

they'll soon stop doing only on X, first because X will ban them unless they pay a ridiculous amount of money to get "verified", then, because you can't see tweets (exes?) if you aren't logged in, its utility as a public service is nullified. As soon the public service will notice that the public channel is no more public, they will switch to a different microblogging service. Saw many traffic/weather alerts switch to something else in my country (mostly telegram, unfortunately)

I don't think theres an option which pushes notifications (as usual I reserve the right to be wrong!). Quacker & Fritter allow you to follow people without the need to sign in or even have a Twitter account. Fritter currently seems to be broken. Quacker is alive & quacking

And I'm now free from Twitter (well in 30 days...) 🎉🍾🍺
