TLDR: 14/88 memes, Hitler's b'day memes, Tucker Carlson watch parties, and following Proud Boys and Libs of Tiktok.

Never was that big into Internet Historian, but I guess I'll remove the few videos I had in my watch later and tell youtube to stop recc'ing the channel now.

Well, there is a third option. You could be like H3 and seem all progressive and reformed till Israel starts genociding kids and then its "wat about hummus tho" and both-siding it till you've purged the leftist audience you were trying to build.

Saw SSFF make a tweet about this. This is unrelated, but I am so pleasantly surprised to see Derek managing not to miss at all even being on the platform as long as he has been. I watched him as a kid in the early 2010s when he still went by The Happy Video Game Nerd to counter Rolfe. Could have become a massive chud or fallen into gamergate and just never did. I mean it makes sense considering his whole thing has always been being pleasant and not tearing people down like toxic gamers wanted.

I forgot about that channel. I should check it out again. Dude taught me how to play 2 stick Goldeneye with 2 controllers. Retro gaming seems to generally have a better crowd, I guess there isn't really constant news to be up and arms about aside from speculators but we should be mad at them. Otherwise it's just like, here's a really weird thing from 30 years ago, neat huh. Seems like mostly well adjusted dudes in their 40s with slight manchild tendencies but not funko pop guy levels.

It absolutely does not. It's filled with boomer-consumer types who complain about wokeness, etc. all the time. Maybe fewer nazis but more general chud types.

His videos are really good, he really developed an identity outside of being the AVGN counter. I recommend his video on 3DO Doom. It's a cool ass story about a legendary trans game developer from the 90s. Retro game spaces do generally seem to be a lot better, but there are certainly a lot of chuds just like in modern gaming. There's a reason Billy Mitchell wears an American flag tie everywhere he goes.

I just can't think of many youtubers who have been around as long as Happy Video Game Nerd and haven't had any moments that make me question him. He hasn't even kept his nose completely clean from site drama, such as calling out IH in no uncertain terms for being a nazi. He doesn't do this often, but whenever his posting gets into the "drama"-ish territory, he shoots at the right spots to the point it doesn't feel like drama. It's just not letting the nazi lie about being a nazi

He's now extra great. When I saw he was the happy video game nerd reborn I was very glad for him. Happy video game nerd wad decent and mainly held back by being a ripoff. There are Billy Mitchell's in the crowd but at least he's a laughing stock or hated or a bit of both. Restoring arcade machines seems to be becoming the Old Punk hobby in my town as well. Being able to play Ninja Turtles between sets at the bar thst does punk shows is pretty tight.
