Hi everyone. New to the fediverse and Lemmy, like many others have said I'm more determined to get involved and to talk and contribute here. I don't know why exactly. It just feels more authentic.

I've played the game since launch for several years. Last three years I've had a bit of a break. I've come back to so much content that I'm quite overwhelmed!

So my question is this. What are you all working towards in game now? What are your goals? What are you enjoying doing in game?

I've decided to try and get my fleet organised as I've never really even looked into that part of the game. Seems like a nice way to make some money and the new freighter redesign looks great! I don't really understand the fleet mechanics at all.

I'm also trying to use the glyph exchange to find a nice exotic ship but I've just spent half an hour sat in a space port so far without the desired ship showing up.

Looking forward to hearing what everyone is up to in game!

Trying to get a good Sentinel ship and multitool!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah they look really good! I also would like to get a living ship but I'm not sure how you even begin to get one

As spoiler free as I can make this, (in deference to Dinodicchellathicc) while still kind'a answering your question: Start looking into Quicksilver tasks on the Anomaly.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Ok. Understood. I see where you mean now. Thanks buddy. Now to start grinding that quicksilber

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A while back I started a Permadeath save specifically for the purpose of finishing off that last Steam task... so lately, I've mostly just been beefing up that save. Got a crap-ton of upgrades to my primary ship and Multitool, started a settlement, upgraded my Minotaur and got an S-class freighter -- which I don't even have on my original save with >500 hours!

So now, I'm actually finding it next to impossible to repeat the process, and find an S-class freighter for my other saves.

Do you have recommendations for Minotaur upgrades? I haven't really found a use for mine yet

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

First, head to the Anomaly station and buy all of the blueprints, if you haven’t already. That is always the right way to start upgrading any of your tech.

Next, have you claimed a settlement yet? If not, do that. After working a few cycles through the settlement questline, you’ll get something interesting for your Minotaur.

And of course, always check the exocraft salesman on the stations; they don’t always have the same upgrades, but you should eventually find some good options that’ll make your Minotaur more useful. I personally recommend only buying S class upgrades, if you can afford it.

And if you haven’t already discovered this: there are two exocrafts that can navigate underwater… not just one.

After playing a single save for 1500 hours, I've started over and am building back up. I finished Expedition 10 and have gone through much of the Artemis mission. It's been a while so it's refreshing to see it all again from the start.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Wow I thought I'd played a decent chunk with my 200 hours. That's amazing bud. You got any general tips? There are just so many things to focus on. I'm going to try and build up my fleet a little to have some more passive income. It's a gorgeous game. I can easily see myself sinking 1500 hours into the game. The soundtrack alone is enough to keep me engaged.

Just playing like a contractor/merchant on my main save, occasionally doing the expedition if I feel they can be interesting. TBH I am still trying to iron out a logic, but nowadays I am playing a little less.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What is a good way to play a merchant? Get yourself a nice hauler or use your freighter with a fast ship to gerry goods?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

For now I play with the freighter, lot of space to store items, but the problem is not the space, it is more about the game that has not any mechanism to play like this

I am working on my rainy day fund.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How long you expecting this rainy day to last?! Haha

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I spend most of my time in Calypso. Those are the only days I've got.

I am procrastinating building a cyberpunk dystopia around an archive on an outrun- colored planet.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

That sounds like a big project. Are there any building limits around a structure that big? If you can work it into your build I'm sure it will be pretty awesome. You will have to post some pictures of your progress

There are a few different types of base part limits -- but the specific limit which obviously matters the most is the upload part limit. (Uploading is what you do to share your base with the rest of the NMS community.)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yep, there's a part limit, and so any "city-like" project ends up being more of a vignette then an actual metropolis. Mostly I'm hoping to capture that layered, cramped, gritty future-tech feel in the shadow of the looming (implied) arcology.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Ah that's a shame. People still get to see your stylle though and appreciate all the details. I've seen some amazing builds! 😊

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Mainly procrastinating :) building/fighting/crafting XD

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

It is one of those games isn't it. I find myself still quite happy just wandering around the planets

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm brand new and don't really know what I'm doing. I'm still working on the main quest so please no spoilers. For the most part I've just been running around and scrapping abandoned ships, upgrading my exosuit so i can fly forever, and I'm trying to find new vehicles. I know I want a freighter and an exocraft but i dont know how to get them. I also want a second starship that is better than my current class 3 but I'm hesitant to sink all my resources into one.

Should I wait to find an abandoned class A and rebuild it or should i grind out units and buy one?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

The "I don't know how to..." questions are mostly answered by doing exactly what you're already doing... playing through those main questlines at the top of the list. But don't hesitate to explore the secondary quests; there can be some good stuff there, too.

One of the things I like the most about NMS is that there's no real sense of urgency to any of it, other than what you imbue it with yourself... so picking and choosing whichever quest strikes your fancy at the moment can be quite satisfying.

Also, I suggest that you don't stress too much about units; if you can't afford something right now, just look into it later. Even if you never read a single spoiler, in time you will no doubt discover a few methods on your own to obtain an overabundance of units.

Mate, I've got about 200 hours into the game and I still don't really know what I'm doing. Keep following that quest as it really helps! I would say that there are lots of good money making methods out there. You can play the market and have a decent ship sooner than you think. If I remember correctly it might be more of a faff to fix up an a class. It might require a few things that are harder to find.

Have you built a base yet? They're also really useful and I think fleets are a good money maker too. Don't worry about buying a freighter as you will get a chance to get one much more easily.

I'm aimlessly wandering the Hicanpaav core in search of a planet I found last summer and lost.

... here's hoping I can find it again someday.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Mate I hope you find it. I hate that feeling of knowing you're close but not able to find it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm trying to get to the galatic core. I think I must be doing it the hard way, because it's taking forever. 😉

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

As much of a spoiler as it is, I found out, as I know many did before me, that there’s a quick route to the center of any galaxy. No, it’s not looking up a portal address close to the center from someone who went before, it’s just spamming the first glyph at any portal. Apparently, in this golden age without portal interference, the first glyph will always drop you within a few thousand lightyears of the core. This actually made me feel more connected to the community. Playing on the Nintendo Switch I don’t get to run into players at the Nexus, so seeing all the communication stations around the portal at the other end of the jump was a fun reminder other players had gone before.

wow I take my hat off to you sir. I didn't do it that way haha mad respect
