Saw this at my university's alt cinema club with no idea what I was getting into. One of those films that leaves an indelible mark on the viewer. I still think sometimes about the scene where he kisses his dying uncle. A rapturous sort of experience to watch, which is good because it is extremely long. But how could any of it be left out?
I decided to rewarch before giving a listen and watched half last night. I decided to finally check out my 2 tape VHS copy on a CRT for the worst visual experience. The visuals are of course next level, but the other thing about it is that it's really funny.
Every now and then I force myself to sit through the entirety of Barry Lyndon just to purge my brain of netflix lighting. Only Lawrence of Arabia uses natural and candle light as beautifully. Barry Lyndon manages to make every scene an oil painting. It adds so much character to the film that most modern films completely flatten.
