They always almost get it, like they will outline an overview of dialectical materialism, that things have causes and effect and everything is influenced by other things, then just say the most nonsensical shit like "Marx didn't mention that your shoes will smell like lemons if you put lemons in them, therefore he had no idea what he was talking about with economics."

"Marx didn't mention that your shoes will smell like lemons if you put lemons in them, therefore he had no idea what he was talking about with economics."

Then more often than not someone will come in with a direct quote where he did actually write at length about lemon shoes and how many lemons it takes for a shoe to start to smell of lemons and nobody will acknowledge them

Tornadoes are a byproduct of the French Revolution.

What does this person mean "Marx's definition of Historical Materialism"?? Like even on its face, saying there is no "historical materialist" conception of the tornado is just silly. Obviously there is a historical materialist development of a tornado. As the environmental conditions developed from the formation of the planet to today, the conditions that shape the formation of tornadoes were created. Even if that isn't historical materialism strictly, you can still measure and chart the size and strength of tornadoes over time as human industrialization developed. If historical materialism is strictly about human social and economic development over time on an objective bases, you can still chart the knock on effects of that social and economic development in other areas of material life. Humans do not live outside of nature so... Human activity obviously has an impact on the environment and this includes the weather!

    Reminds me of:

Cause we are living in a material world And I am a material girl You know that we are living in a material world And I am a material girl🎶

To understand the material cause of a tornado first you must derive the quasi geostrophic height tendency equation from first principles of F=MA

Does weather not involve matter and energy?

One might be surprised to know of the number of Serious Philosophers who, as far as I have been able to tell from their commentaries, basically say this and it's regarded as a deep insight. Quoting Russell's History of Western Philosophy:

War, especially, has its share in historical causation; and victory in war does not always go to the side with the greatest economic resources.

That chapter in general can be read for an impressive array of bafflingly poor objections, though I think none so silly as this one.
