Apple refuses to separate sound controls. Alarms, texts, system sounds, screenshot noises, camera shutter, call ringer are all attached.

Why can’t I turn off screenshot noises without risking missed calls, wtf why is this even a connected concern??

Definitely android does this better and i found it very annoying when I switched to iPhone this year

I can’t have the phone vibrate, but make no sound when I get a notification, without that affecting other system sounds?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Why don’t text message notifications automatically mute while I’m on a phone call? Why do I need my eardrum blown out by a text message ding while on a phone call?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

First thing I do when I’m setting up my phone.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

It’s really baffling to (very deliberately) have no option in the camera app to turn off shutter sounds - as if it’s some kind of moral or legal requirement - but then allow you to turn it off globally via silent mode. It’s the single strangest UX decision on this thing.

The candy crush ads are annoying.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Any where to request features that Apple will actually look at?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

This! This bugs me so much. If I’m in the office I have to turn the ringer down but then I can’t hear any messages when they come in. It’s infuriating at best.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I keep my phone on silent because I don’t want to be bothered, also I have an Apple Watch for notifications.

I only recently switched to iPhone and trust me my last 15 Androids were all permanently silent too lol

But yes, they should have a way to easily break apart the sound levels

This, the keyboard, and youtube vanced are the things I miss most from android

Buy an Android if you love to tinker.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I have an android phone for work and I turn both off. It’s just annoying. I don’t want a ringtone blasted when I am on train, or at my desk at work. Even just notification bings are godawful.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Click the 'bell' icon in Control Center to turn on/off notification sounds while keeping the others.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

iPhone sucks Lol

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I keep it off bc sounds are annoying overall, i only want my music

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

That will be 119.99 to turn that off

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

No, that's not why iPhones users always have ringer turned off. Its because they usually have an Apple Watch (or other smartwatch like Garmin) that alerts them to incoming calls or notifications. Ringer is redundant and not necessary.

Its been that way for me and everyone i know for years now.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

why would you need sound on? Psychopath that think other people around that dont matter.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

For me it’s because it easy. It was a hassle on my android.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Why I can’t control ringtone volume for AirPods specifically?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

They are separated. Just not clearly. You have to adjust volume for a thing while it is happening.

Because this is the apple way

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

You can do this by creating or editing a focus

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Because apple know best, now sush your pretty head and look at our new, new expensive phone which has the same problem.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I've always wondered that. I keep my ringer off since every time I send a Snapchat or screenshot I don't want people to think I am sending pictures of them.. if I could turn off camera noises, I would leave my ringer on.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I just don’t need the ringer turned on?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Yuuuuup. I’ve been complaining about this for several years. At work I need the ringer loud to hear it over, well, everything (loud environment). At home, in a house dead quiet, I don’t want my alarm at max volume scaring the absolute shit out of me, and waking up everyone else in the house in the process. I can not for the life of me figure why the fuck volume isn’t separate. Such a stupid thing not to have.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Because… it’s annoying to hear any noise at all, ever.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Yep it’s one thing Android does do better for sure.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

...they are holding it wrong.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Then obviously you need an apple watch so you can always know when you get a call even when away from your phone and even when your phone is on silent. Noob lol. 😝

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Long past time for Apple to add this capability. Android has had it for ages. Samsung with Good Lock can even have app-specific audio settings.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I leave mine off because if I’m talking on the phone while they’re on and I get a text the notification noise is BLASTED in my ear. While I’m on the call.

I’ve had many iPhones, my first was the 3g now I’m a 14 pro. I don’t think any other phone I had did that.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Are posts with actual substance allowed here?

Agreed.

For me its as simple as keeping the ringer on at night for emergencies, but turn off texts for my idiot friend who sends his ponderings while on the crapper at 6 am, central time.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I never use the ringer because I always have my AirPods or Apple Watch with me. I get notifications on both.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Mine has been on vibrate ever since I got an Apple Watch, which has been 5+ years. Never had an issue or desire to go back. It has nothing to do with the reasons you listed.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah, I agree with all this, although personally I don’t leave it off. More like 50/50.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I have kept my ringer off 24/7. Getting anxiety attacks from the calls and dings. I only turn it back on when my family and I are shopping in case we need to find each other.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

What I can't believe is that there is still no indicator on the screen when the silence switch is turned on. So I turn it on, and forget it's turned on!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

So is this is why I’m not able to have my ringtone only vibrate and sound notifications for other alerts?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I don’t know. I always put my phone on silent long before my iPhone.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

I’ve had any noise turned off for the last 19 years of owning a phone, any phone. I still to this day think it’s weird that people need their shit on full volume going off all the time.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Life is just easier that way

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Because I miss BB10 notification system

Lmao it's always fun to hear what great features iPhones have.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

It’s less customisable but your 10yr old cousin and 78yr old grandmother find it easy to use. It’s a silent switch. Turn it to silent and your phone cannot make a sound without an interaction by you. Very simple and easy to understand. If you want more granular control of this in iOS you’ll have to use a combination of Focus modes and Shortcuts. Personally I think of be pretty easy for Apple to retain the simplistic silent mode AND add setting level granular control too.
