the redlib instance i was looking at has more ''stuff'' in the way that isn't allowing it to work on it. but using the source reddit url in yt-dlp.. that still works fine here.

Someone else said you should try the most recent version. They’re right. You just copy the file into some place like ~/.local/bin/, set it executable with chmod +x and add its location to your $PATH. You will need to apt remove yt-dlp from your system to get rid of the old apt version. From that point forward using the -U flag when you invoke yt-dlp will first check for and install an update if needed before doing the thing you asked for.
Someone else said Reddit is closing off their api. This is so.
You’re getting 429 so try changing your vpn endpoint and see if that helps you out.
reddit is changing access to it's api -- you might need to find another alternative.
EZ: Don't support reddit.
To get the best quality version, I had to copy the video address from the default reddit site and feed that address to yt-dlp. The alternative is to inspect the redlib page source, get the video link source and give that to yt-dlp.
