If you store enough vital information in your head, you never need to really work hard except when you become the fire extinguisher for other people's fuck-ups.

I've had many coworkers over the years who made their greatest contributions to the company by doing nothing. In programming, the amount of damage some people can do by actually doing stuff is almost inconceivable.

Edit: I had one programmer colleague whose code fired a 125 mph knuckleball a foot above a ten-year-old kid's head. I had to physically intervene to prevent a fistfight between my boss and the client, certainly the only time that even happened to me.

Nothing like picking up all the slack because the guy who usually watches TV on shift is once again watching TV, this time with the boss.

Hey you don't have to call me.out like that. I put in a solid effort those first 2 years specifically so I could lazily coast for the remainder of my contract.

I'm an at-will employee writing this comment from my desk job. I worked hard for that "achieved greater than expected results" last year, and you bet your whole ass I'm gonna take a few extra poops now if I wanna.
