Suffering is a virtue in the good ol' US of A.

Trying to get rid of them and increase turnover by making the job uncomfortable? Drive older ones off the payroll to cut costs?

I’m sure making people uncomfortable will do wonders for their ability to pay attention to their job.

Another stupid fucking thing from these stupid fucking people. I'm so over it. I've worked a job where I was on my feet all day. That shit sucked. Like can I get a chair for when it's slow? What?! If ya got time to lean you got time to clean. Fuck off.

"This welcome change reinforces both our security posture and our commitment to hospitality by having these officers on their feet and alert," a TSA spokesperson said in a statement to ABC News.

Spoken by someone who has never flown commercial. TSA aren't there to welcome you but if we're going to pretend that the bored look of monotony is "hospitality" then id rather be welcomed by someone who is able to sit if they need or want to.

Not to mention there already was a TSA shortage earlier this year so you're making the job even less tolerable. Whole thing looks and smells like shit

Anyone who thinks standing makes you more alert than sitting has never held a job that requires more than 5 minutes of standing still at once...

Or even looked at someone who has to stand still as part of their job duties.

You may look alert, but a huge chunk of your brain is devoted to how much it sucks to have to be standing.

Like, I've been a part of government security theater and we had to stand. But we just had metal detector wands, the little room with the one way mirrors next to us had half a dozen dudes with AR15s and body armor, they got chairs because they were the ones that had to be ready.

My only job if anything happened was to fall down so I wouldn't be hit when the guys on the other side of the glass opened fire.

    We were just the bait/distraction

Every time it comes up I have to remind people TSA has never caught a terrorist.
Some were caught before getting to TSA, or after passing the TSA screening, but never by TSA itself.

Some say we need security screening at airports. Yes! We had it before TSA. Usually run by the airport itself; An x-ray for bags, and a metal detector for people. It' wasn't limited to people with tickets, everyone could go through. It was basically just a gun check. Much faster and less invasive than what TSA does. And this is the important part: It was at least as effective at catching terrorists!

The most effective check on airplane nonsense aside from the simple X-ray/metal detector for guns are the passengers. Back when hijackings were in fashion and again today it’s not the TSA strip searching kids and wiping down grandmas for bomb residue. It’s the agreement between a bunch of strangers that if someone acts a fool they get their teeth kicked in and duck taped to a chair.

I remember that. When hijackings were common, everyone knew to sit tight, follow directions, and it would be fine in the end. Then 9/11 changed that calculus. Now every passenger will immediately fight for/with their lives to stop it.

That, and the hardened cockpit door you can't even shoot your way into anymore.

"MetaCops aren't allowed to lean against their Unit—makes them look lazy and weak. They can almost lean, look like they're leaning, they can even brandish a big leaning-against-the-car 'tude like this particular individual, but they can't lean."

Hi, it sounds like in an attempt to disparage the TSA you're awkwardly trying to use trans and an outdated term for trans people that is now borderline at best as an insult.

    Yeah don't do that.

Management and old people think if you got time to lean you got time to clean. Some take it as a personal insult that you would dare take a load off while checking out customers at a register or looking something up at a computer.

Stools (at minimum) should be provided at all workstations.

As someone with back problems, I've never understood the insistence on everyone standing. Check out people, this kind of stuff, fucking everywhere. This is also why cruelty is the point.

Every grocery store in my area has their cashier's standing up, except Aldi, they have chairs for their cashier's.

And of course their service is awful! JK, it's perfectly fine! Publix cashiers aren't any better because they can stand. It's not like they have to run around or anything. They're stuck in the same spot for hours at a time. Why can't they sit? I wouldn't even notice if they didn't have legs. Who cares? Let them sit.

Anything that makes this less attractive as a job is a good thing. Fuck these thugs. What have they done for you? Abolish the Tsa and return this money to the taxpayers or use it for good.

  • They kept me from gettimg on my flight just to be assholes, and after being rerouted around the country, I never could get home. Someome had to drive to another large city to get me. It was awful.

    Just to be a dick.

But let's not normalize cruelty for the sake of it.

How about ICE has to stand and walk everywhere? I'd hate for them to be less alert.

Some political appointee or SES with a micropenis got upset that the TSA officer didn’t stand and salute while checking their ID

It's crazy how bad most people are at thinking of rules that aren't 100% of something.

"Always sitting" is a bad rule. "Always standing" is a bad rule. But authoritarians can't seem to accept any rule that allows choice, nuance, or moderation. And most people just kind of.. accept that.

Terrible idea for a jobs program to begin with. Security theatre, always has been. Just do away with the whole thing and go back to regular old metal detectors, it’s proven more effective and far more affordable ($40T debt and rising thanks to no tax only spend repugnantcon policy).

All the TSA agents except the one running the Xray screening are usually standing already

You'll need to give them something to stand on and they'll need way more breaks than if they were sitting. The only way I see this working is if the ID checkers and carry on bin people rotate around so no one is standing at a booth for hours at a time.
