I just need to complain to people that get it.

How in the hell does W11 not have a basic text replacement function. You need to install powertoys if you want something that smartphones have been doing for ages. All I want is to type a few characters that automatically becomes my long work email. And Microsoft says fuck you if you want this for accessibility.

At least every day at work makes me appreciate Linux at home more.

Because nothing microsoft makes these days is being made for the users anymore.

On a machine from work I tried to adjust edge. I can make it open with a blank page (just set the start page to about:blank) , but it's impossible to make it open new tab's as blank page. You simply can not...... Not without an 3rd party extension.

There is a convoluted non-extension method.

    1. Registry change. See here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/DeployEdge/microsoft-edge-policies/newtabpagelocation

    2. That will be all you need if you're enrolled in a domain or mobile device management. If you're not you can fake being in a MDM environment via another registry change. See here for that: https://hitco.at/blog/apply-edge-policies-for-non-domain-joined-devices/

Honestly user hostile behavior by MS here, but as with most things can be defeated one way or another if you're able to waste time on it.

Yep, I feel you there! Complain, vent, because that is the only pressure valve you will get to release the unnecessary tension that Windows inflicts on your mind. Thankfully, I get to know the joys of using Linux at home, having to only do occasional battle with Windows 11 at work (when I need to do my computer learning modules for corporate policies associated with my job). I don't need to do anything serious with Windows 11 at work, thankfully.

I have been into Linux for decades now but recently decided to stop using Windows wherever possible. This has inspired me to work on a home lab amongst other things so I can eventually move away from the majority of online platforms. I am done, I really am.

No more corporate bullshit and the final straw was Windows 11 constantly nagging you with dark patterns. Not to mention that now every installed piece software creates pop-ups constantly demanding your attention or trying to sell you on upgrades or new features thus interupting your workflow. It is a real shit show.

Oh yeah, that is what killed the joy for me...All the dark patterns (when those despicable patterns could be smote by end users) were bearable for a time. But when it became difficult to even do that for my computer because Microslop decided to change defaults every other update or so...I was done when Recall was first announced. Got whatever the latest version of Ubuntu installed on my Desktop and eventually ended up using Garuda Linux (currently switched to GNOME Desktop). I am pretty much just using open source whenever possible and only using closed when there is no other choice or if my exit hatch from said closed source provider hasn't yet been secured.

I love the peace that Linux provides, I have learned to not summon the machine imps through my bad decisions and am far more careful with my PC tinkering that I haven't caused myself any major problems in months. Fixing problems more and more tiny issues, getting back into my troubleshooting era that I thought had been lost to time. ROFL

Somehow, Adobe acrobat is even worse and i use it for just about every task at work as well.

Ugh, Adobe is just nasty in general...I couldn't imagine having no other choice but using it. Vile software, I would exorcise the demon with three applications of Document Viewer and a hand grenade filled with condensed Gentoo Linux (the badly written Handbook too). I know Document Viewer probably isn't up for real work in corporate situations, but...I am lucky I don't have complicated needs.

When shitnceases to function well at its core purpose, that's when you know they've jumped the shark.

I use Excel for work and it CONSTANTLY fucks up or does something aggravating that makes me waste time.

Sometimes it's as simple as saving. Because the save point is not on OneDrive (OHNOES MS), it will tell me the file is ready only and I have to save it as a copy.

Like, fuck you, I just fucking made this work book.

And sometimes when I try to open a second workbook, it will stall until I click on the File tab, on the open workbook. Then bam, it will open up.

It constantly does shit I don't want it to and have to chase down how to shut it off. The "smart select" should be titled "THAT'S NOT WHAT I FUCKING WANTED!" select.

Is it possible you were just entering information into a cell in the open workbook and didn't click enter or out of the cell? The only time Excel does that to me is due to the above. If so you don't have to click file but you do need to finish editing the cell value, either by clicking a different place in the worksheet hitting enter or clicking the menu like the file tab.
