I reported to Google that it is inaccurate. There are no signs indicating Lake America, there are no locals who know it as Lake America and even searching for Lake America on Google Maps shows no results, you have to search for Lake Ontario.

Fucking fascist bootlickers...

How far has google fallen? Reader, in 1996 they were a goddamned miracle. Now? The world is objectively worse off due to their existence.

    TL;DR: they became evil

Lol, especially funny because Google's motto quite literally used to be, "Don't be evil." And they apparently even use that phrase in their company code of conduct.

Google removed “Don’t be evil” from the preface of its employee Code of Conduct in May 2018.

they never actually did follow that creed. ever. at the start it was the typical immature startup. hell bent on gaining users and market share at any cost while refining their 'products'. the goal was always sell high or go public. regardless of which path, "evil" always drives the bus.

There are better articles, websites, guides etc. like this that aren't made by a company who obviously choose their own services as the best option. I have some saved on my computer but it's off and I'm in bed so I'll add those tomorrow.

Canada should announce that they've changed the names of all the Great Lakes to Canadian names, like Lake Toronto, and Lake Ottawa. Make sure there's a Lake Saskatchewan, because there is no way Trump can read or pronounce it, so that will really piss him off. Maybe he'll painfully stroke out and croak, and we can all read about it the Big Beautiful Obituary.

Pathetic display of bootlicking, but not at all surprising from Google.

So, can anyone tell me, how much force of law does it carry for the executive branch to unilaterally declare a name change like this?

Seems to me congress has to say this, then the prez would get a veto.

Obviously big biz is just bowing down to the dotard gangster king. But it can't be official, I presume these names will revert to their originals when this dumpster fire burns out, if not before.

Not a lawyer, but as far as I know this is another example of Trump highlighting shortcomings of current law. I believe you’re right that an EO can’t officially (re)name something like Lake Ontario (or the Gulf of Mexico, or Department of Defense). That said, Google, Apple, and Waze can choose to follow the order even though Congress has not passed any legislation addressing the name change either way (and this Congress likely just won’t). Similarly, official DOD correspondence now carries the “Dept. of War” letterhead, even though the name change was never made official by Congress.

TL;DR: The people who are supposed to enforce the laws and the ones supposed to be making them are being very selective on which laws mean anything.

Google Maps in Canada has retained the proper Lake Ontario name (so far).
