it's chambered in 9x39mm, a subsonic, that is very low-velocity cartridge (well, comparatively, it's still a bullet), which thus doesn't need a lot of barrel length to actually reach its intended velocity - it's comparable to a pistol round in that regard, and so it essentially only needs a pistol-length barrel

it's a decent bit longer with a suppressor on:
