Check out Librespeed. It's open source and pretty accurate compared to other websites that tend to inflate the speed by testing only the best possible servers

some ISPs try to detect speed tests and then defraud you the rest of the time
i use ookla to run the test and choose the nearest geographic hop to get a sense of how fat my pipe is. i also run Cat6 between my system and the gateway to avoid wifi bottlenecking.
ookla gives up, down and ping.
i just use fast.com
