For the past several days, it has nearly impossible to upload an image via the Voyager app on iOS using my lemmy.world account.

Every now and then, an image gets through. And uploading using the website works every time, so I don’t know what the problem is.

Have you tried clearing voyagers cache? Rebooting your phone? Closing all the apps that are open? Do you have this issue on cellular or just on WiFi? There needs to be a lot more information given here for anybody to be helpful.

Clearing the cache does not fix the issue. It just makes it spin longer before failing again.

Killing the app in memory does not fix the issue (but increases the probability of it working once in that moment if I keep spamming the button).

Restarting the phone does not fix the issue.

One thing I noticed is that posting images to communities on certain instances is harder than others. There’s some kind of handshake issue happening. This was never a problem in the past, unless the instance itself was experiencing technical issues.

Again, going to the website in a browser on the same phone on the same network and image uploads work every time.

…and through this I am having zero issues posting text.

Hmmm okay. Are you using a beta iOS? If so that could be the issue, if not maybe consider updating to the 27 beta. It’s pretty mature for a beta release and 26 has never not felt like a jank beta anyway.

Otherwise you may need to file a bug report on the voyager repo.

I just factory reset my phone and all is working fine now, but prior to that, when uploading an image on Voyager, i would have to click the 3 dot menu > browse > and then select a photo. If I clicked a photo from the initial gallery screen it would fail every single time. This is on Android too, but worth a shot.

I’m not factory resetting my phone to fix what is an app-level issue.

I wasn't suggesting you try, just that I had the same issue that went away after a factory reset that was needed due to a host of issues that my phone was having after 5 years of use and several Android version upgrades.

My solution was the workaround of drilling down one level deeper into the file system (via the 3 dot menu) and selecting a photo from there. That method worked fine for me as its not like I'm uploading pictures here very often.

The iOS app does not have this. Photos can only be added to a comment using the photo picker.

On iOS, you can either use a photo from the camera app or an image in the Files app (something that was added to the phone as a document). But the Files app does not have access to the photos that are part of the camera roll. And the camera roll doesn’t have access to files.

(The first two images in this comment were added using the Voyager app without any issue. The third image failed repeatedly. I logged into lemmy.world using the vger.app website and the third image uploaded without any problems.)
