if i pay for a fucking cinema ticket why is it normalized that they air 20 minutes of ADS, i PAID for the movie fuck off

[-] CordialCephalopod@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago

Why not go a little later?

[-] kungen@feddit.nu 1 points 26 minutes ago

With my luck, specifically that screening will be ad-free and I'll miss a lot.

[-] Carrot@lemmy.today 3 points 1 hour ago

Yeah, I always show up when the movie actually starts. I know that AMC lists the actual start time along with the showing time. This usually happens on accident anyway, my friends are always late to show up to carpool anyways

Not OP, but I used to always have to show up early so I could get good seats — why do the rows just feet from the screen even exist — but I guess now that selecting seats when you buy your ticket online is normalized, it isn't usually necessary. Hadn't considered before, though tbf I rarely go to the theater.

during commercials at the movies

Peak capitalism: pay overpriced movie tickets and still have to endure commercials

[-] Peffse@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago

I used to go to a movie theatre that made their own skits to play before a movie would start. They'd take public domain movies, yank about 3 minutes out of it and dub them with corny dialog.

Man... I miss that place. 10000% beats commercials and the same exact trailer design for every single movie preview.

Highly recommend you check out Be Kind, Rewind!

I remember one time we rushed to the movie theater to get in time. We were a bit late to the theater, but we knew there would be commercials, so that was ok.

What we didn’t know was that the commercials would go on for what felt like one hour. Just ridiculous. We could’ve grabbed a beer on the way and still not miss the movie.

No. Sitting through 15 minutes of studio logos.

[-] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 2 points 1 hour ago

Yeah, you eat all the snacks during the previews so you don't make excessive noise and disturb others during the actual film

[-] RQG@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

How i wish people would do that. Last 2 movies I went to was one hour of extremely loud munching noises.

[-] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 1 points 30 minutes ago

Yeah....I miss when I had a full home theatre in my basement for that exact reason. I basically only go now if I can splurge for the VIP seats or I know it's gonna be an empty theatre. So basically never.
