Well, it seems to me that the “tech bros” are merely the tip of the iceberg—apparently, billionaires around the world have become so powerful that in many countries, first and foremost the U.S., but also in places like Russia, a kind of new monarchy has emerged, in which this tiny, extremely privileged group once again represents something akin to the untouchable nobility of an absolutist monarchy: their power, too, is in a sense purely hereditary, since it is passed down in the form of their capital without suffering any significant reduction.
In short: I would say this is the result—and, in and of itself, precisely the goal—of the inhuman, ruthless “turbo-capitalism” that was largely established worldwide by the U.S. I think billionaires worldwide have a stake in this and are working in their respective countries to cement their power. Of course, this is particularly incompatible with democracy, which is why, for example, it looks as though the U.S. democracy is set to be replaced in the foreseeable future by a ruthless autocracy similar to that in Russia.
Similar, extremely alarming developments are also taking place in other countries. The “tech bros” are certainly playing a central role in this, as their media power is undoubtedly being deployed on a massive scale to achieve the billionaires’ goals.
In Germany, for example, the far-right AfD—which is essentially a carbon copy of MAGA—is benefiting massively from the reach on Twitter that Elon Musk is providing them.
I don’t think that’s a coincidence.
So yes, I am convinced that the resurgence of fascism around the world in many countries at the same time has a common root: namely, the billionaires who profit from it.
