It used to work so much better, I swear. I fought it for awhile but eventually retrained myself on it and got pretty good. I was pretty sloppy, but it was amazing at guessing both the nearest swiped word as well as the next logical word in my sentence and now it's straight shit. I swear this corresponded with AI.

And it makes sense, right? Like this should be one of the narrow things that an actual LLM would be good for, right??? But no. It recommends words and names that are nowhere near my vocabulary and it keeps recommending the same broken suggestions. For reasons I will never understand, probably usually comes up as pregnant? I assure you, I absolutely never mean pregnant except now I've typed it twice and forever reinforced it hysterical sobbing

It works about 50% of the time. I spend as much time correcting words as swyping new ones.

I really don't understand people that have the patience to hit every single letter on their virtual keyboard one by one. Glide typing or swyping or whatever you wanna call it is just so much faster, at least for me. Precision is also pretty good. These days you can even have multiple languages set and it'll generally figure out which you're using.

For those reading this that never tried it: OPs meme example is a very bad representation, and those errors would never even be possible. The whole thing is dictionary based, and contextual. So it might mix up whole and while, since they have essentially the same "trace". But "zhould" only becomes a word if it's been typed in manually by mistyping letters (I had to force correct it to get it to leave it in, even after manually typing it out).

If you have those kinda words in your dictionary, just remove them when they appear. On Android (Gboard) you just tap the word in the text to see the suggestions/alternatives, and drag the bad one into the trashcan that appears once you start dragging. After that it literally can't be swyped until you manually re-add it by typing it out (and possibly overriding am auto-correction).

TIL: glide-typing (aka in iOS: Slide To Type) is a thing.
