I was just using the wording from the painting. Is there a reason why it would be different for the word raisin instead of pipe?

Raisin is masculine so it gets 'un' but pipe is feminine so it gets 'une'. Gendered languages are interesting.

Yep! A mouse is feminine. A horse is masculine. A car is feminine. A fridge is masculine. A door is feminine. A bed is masculine.

In French, that is. Other gendered languages might be totally different, or even have 'genders' other than masculine/feminine.

[-] Glowstick@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Sure, but a pipe is completely phallic. Please tell me flower and clam are feminine

[-] sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago

Both are feminine lol. I don't want to spoil the fun but it's generally based on how the word is spelled or pronounced.

TIL, thanks

I find this response good and funny.

Also not to make it weird but I haven't been to a grocery store in years because I have agoraphobia, and I hadn't even thought about that part. 😅

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

They'll literally even bring them to you, anymore.

ordering grocery delivery for a single teeny tiny box of raisins, as a bit

(don't actually do that though, if you want to order some raisins get the rest of your groceries with it haha)

On an unrelated note, a joke I remember from my childhood, which I'll now butcher because it's been a few decades:

Person goes to grocery store, asks if they have apples. "We do" "Good, can you give me 10, individually bagged?"

Next day: "Do you have carrots?" "Yes, we do" "Can you give me 5 of them, individually bagged?"

Day after that: "Do you have raisins?" "NO, we do not sell raisins here!"

[-] Willdrick@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Ooh it was for real? I thought it was wordplay on "I haven't seen a raise in 15 years"

[-] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 23 points 3 days ago

Go lie on the ground in your kitchen and check with a flashlight under all the furniture and whatnot. There's bound to be a few.

[-] susi7802@sopuli.xyz 23 points 3 days ago

My hubby has that problem too when he’s taking a shower. His BMI is off the scale.

[-] Daxter101@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 3 days ago

Wow. Smart joke structure, but mean.

[-] susi7802@sopuli.xyz 11 points 3 days ago

Yeah, thanks to Lemmy I’m getting pretty good at this.

[-] TheLowestStone@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

I work with raisins on a daily basis.

[-] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Me too. They're a pain amirite? Especially that one who always makes meetings take forever.

[-] Ibaudia@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Raisin Bran is my favorite cereal so I can't relate.

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Only way I can tolerate raisins.

[-] PumaStoleMyBluff@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago

[-] HubertManne@piefed.social 7 points 3 days ago

[-] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 6 points 3 days ago

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

You sure they're still there?

[-] Pat_Riot@lemmy.today 2 points 2 days ago

Yep, I had a handful when I got home from work.

[-] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I just encountered some in a bag of snack mix the other day. It was not an experience I cared for.

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 7 points 3 days ago

[-] ms_lane@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I have some in the pantry if you need them. Still good, they were not part of the cleanup!

[-] Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 days ago

You must not like oatmeal cookies cause I can promise you they’re still there

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Have they not discovered chocolate chips yet where you are?

[-] Polisheocket@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Don’t need to be specific. Both can be used and be fire

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 days ago

All of the solar panels took away the sun and the grapes can't dry out anymore. /s

[-] rhythmisaprancer@quokk.au 3 points 3 days ago

Maybe you should wash your dishes.

[-] Shindo66@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
