But use Ethernet for new network cabling. Coax is good if it is already installed in the walls, but not so good for new work.

- I'd go for Ethernet.
- it matters more what's on the other end if you have a properly secured protector.
- can you run it around the edge of the room to avoid getting stepped on entirely? Even the the protector it's still gonna be at least a mild trip hazard.
You answered your own question: if you are going to use a rubber cable protector, like those sold by office supply stores, then it wouldn't matter.
Also, if you use an ethernet cable and have to replace it every couple of years just a few bucks..
When running a new connection cat 5E/6 cable is far better than coaxial cable. Cost wise, performance wise and logistically it makes sense to go with the Ethernet cable like a modest cat5E cable
